EDS and AFS Switch Portfolio

Hitachi Energy offers a portfolio of Ethernet based WAN and LAN switches, routers and firewalls for communication over optical and copper-based communication infrastructure.

The AFS switch, router and firewall portfolio offers state-of-the-art LAN technology including fiber optical communication for critical infrastructure companies. It includes DIN-rail as well as small-scale 19” products and is able to provide seamless redundancy for mission critical networks. It is especially designed to meet IEC 61850 requirements for substation automation. The AFSView network management tool provides a convenient and simple to use product to monitor complex networks.

Hitachi Energy’s EDS500 is a product family of ruggedized DIN-rail Ethernet WAN switches and serial analog modems especially designed to support critical infrastructure companies by enhanced robust communication technology offering minimal downtime, predictive failure notification and encrypted management. It’s ability to interconnect locations by SHDSL or fiber optics enables the use in a broad range of applications. Supporting also serial communication enables the usage in retrofit scenarios.

Especially designed for SCADA networks EDS500 supports protocols such as IEC 60870-5-101 or IEC 60870-5-104 for controlling the switches’ operation and monitoring its status as well as converting transparently between the protocols.

All products of the EDS & AFS product family are compliant with enhanced EMC standards and offer many features, such as fast protection schemes, redundant power supply and alarm contacts, which enable the stepwise introduction of smart grid and smart city applications.
