Hitachi Energy is seeking for a Senior Lead Project Engineer for it's Raleigh, NC location. This role is responsible for the electrical and communications system design of Microgrid or BESS Systems across diverse applications (e.g. remote microgrids, grid scale storage, commercial & light industrial). To execute project control and design for projects with medium to high complexity within the Grid Edge Solutions, Microgrids, Battery Energy Storage and Automation businesses. Coordinate and execute project engineering assignments within the project scope and value chain - efficiently, cost-effectively and in accordance with contract specifications, quality standards, safety requirements and business objectives.

Your responsibilities

• Technical contribution: Acts as project technical lead, prepares/approves design deliverables. Reviews all project documents for conformity and quality assurance. Anticipates and solves unprecedented problems, crucial issues and unique conditions. Serves as a specialist in the application of advanced concepts and methods.
• Perform Project Engineering focused tasks, including contract review, scoping, system configuration, factory and site testing requirements for control and SCADA system software.
• Knowledge of inverter-based control theory and SCADA systems.
• Support design of systems to meet the functional design specifications.
• Assists in preparing proposal/presentation of engineering projects/programs (provision of bills of materials, estimated engineering hours, etc.).
• Sales support: Assists with quotations, engineering, and product team to build sufficient documents responding to customer’s inquiries such as RFI’s, RFP’s, etc.
• Contract management: Supports Contract Managers in issuing claims (new/change in scope of work, cost impact, time impact, risk quantifications, etc.). Provides quality solutions as per customer requirement and delivers within budget and contract. Ensures adherence to safety standards and mitigates potential risks.
• Planning and control: Creates work plans and cost estimates in own area of responsibility Reviews and approves scope, budget and schedule for assignments and ensures quality deliverables on time and within targeted cost. Improves effectiveness of work plan in collaboration with other functions.
• Risk and opportunity management: Creates and executes strategies for risk and opportunity management in one’s area of responsibility. Identifies and manages contract risks taking preventive/corrective actions to resolve any contract/quality/program/ cost issues. Reports any outstanding issues to management, along with recommendations for resolution.
• Customer: Works with the customer to shape and deliver solutions and seeks customer feedback to drive and deliver improvements. Attends project meetings and presents specific aspects of engineering assignments.
• Supply chain management: Collaborates with the Supply Chain function to ensure that technical requirements for equipment or services are communicated and agreed on with potential suppliers. Provides technical evaluation of supplier proposals and accepts as fit for purpose supplied equipment or services
• Technical leadership and knowledge sharing: Ensures sharing of application know-how internally, able to support customer training, testing and troubleshooting of Automation Systems and other applications as required.
• Processes and tools: Reviews, develops and documents quality standards, processes, tools and techniques. Ensures that engineering activities comply with required safety regulations and contractual requirements. Contributes towards continuous improvements of processes and tools for engineering efficiency.

Your background

• Bachelor's Degree in engineering and minimum 5 years of experience in power generation control systems, power systems engineering, power electronics and/or energy storage system design; OR
• Master's Degree in engineering and minimum 3 years of experience in power generation control systems, power systems engineering, power electronics and/or energy storage system design.
• Candidate must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States.
• Capability in these areas as the position will be required to work in a wide range of engineering subjects.
• High level of technical aptitude in electrical engineering and industrial software technologies.
• Advanced knowledge and experience in industrial, power generation or distribution environments.
• SCADA system design. Familiarity with Modbus, DNP and other communication protocols.
• Engineering and/or commissioning of power electronics devices including energy storage and/or solar inverters.
• Distribution system design and engineering, distribution level interconnection.
• Familiarity or experience with renewable energy generation technologies as well as thermal generation (reciprocating engine, CHP, small turbines).
• Ability to develop understanding of Power Grid Automation systems and/or Power Generation.
• Demonstrates an interest in and understanding of others; Adapts to the team and builds team spirit; Recognizes the contribution of others; Listens, consults others and communicates proactively.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, and high attention to detail.
• Establishes good relationships with customers and staff; Builds wide and effective networks of contacts inside and outside the organization; Relates well to people at all levels.
