BASIC JOB DESCRIPTION:

The overall responsibility of the support and service technician is providing substation automation support and service for system integrators and utility customers using the Hitachi Energy Substation Automation Solutions and Products. This position is responsible for customer support, device assessment and repair of electronic equipment, customer site service work and supporting the regional Hitachi Energy team for customer product evaluations and demonstration.  Apply knowledge of electrical and electronic practices and theories in determining malfunctions, repairing and restoring equipment.  Preparing product and electrical equipment for customer demonstration and application evaluation.  Regional customer engagement, communicate with and respond to customer support requests and inquires including field service work requiring onsite service and support.

JOB DUTIES:

Key elements to this position are the ability to:

  • Assess, inspect and trouble-shoot returned devices, prototypes and test equipment as necessary.  Identify and determine equipment faults, damages and problems, and make necessary repairs, changes and adjustments.
  • Perform power and voltage testing, software communications testing, calibrations, or other testing on repaired and restored units and assemblies, test equipment, machinery and prototypes by using such equipment as ac/dc testers and meters, oscilloscopes, software. based test equipment, related software and small hand and power tools.
  • Provide regional customer service and support remote and onsite when required to perform electronic equipment assessment, application triage and software and hardware field upgrades.
  • Create, prepare, build, test and modify substation automation equipment used for application diagnostics and demonstration.  Preparing equipment, devices and other equipment working from schematics, drawings and specifications and under the supervision of an application engineer. 
  • Maintain and update logs of regional demonstration equipment, test equipment, machinery and equipment maintenance and calibration records, and qualifications test records. 
  • Communicate with and respond to regional team and/or customers on technical support calls, priority issues, and application debug and testing information.

 
COMPLEXITY OF TASKS:

  • Requires knowledge and experience of utility substation protection, control and automation systems, and utility protection and control maintenance and operation practices.
  • Must be able to work under the direction of the regional technical sales and application engineers to prepare/configure devices and applications, quality assurance testing to validate application performance. 
  • Requires problem solving and diagnostic experience for device/solution application issues recommending corrective action.


TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in Electronics Technology or Technical school graduate.
  • 3-5 years previous experience testing, troubleshooting and repairing electronic equipment, plus a demonstrated knowledge of electrical and electronic theories and math skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, technical drawings and product specification sheets required. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are needed.  Ability to use computer and related software is necessary.
  • Candidate must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Industry experience in substation protection, control and automation utility operations and maintenance practices and safety procedures
  • Familiar with protection and control products and substation automation products portfolio (IED’s, Gateways & HMI & control software) as they are applied to Hitachi Energy Substation Automation system solutions.
