Team Manager - SCM HVDC

Mission Statement:

As Team Manager for SCM at INOPC-HVDC, Chennai you will be responsible for a given team’s operation, resource allocation, development of competence and people development. You will support the creation of category strategies to ensure optimal result for HVDC. You will have between 10-15 direct reports with a mix of category managers and category specialists. The team is responsible to execute both tactical as well as strategic deliveries. During projects you will be responsible to ensure relentless execution with proactive planning, RFQ and negotiation with suppliers and to monitor and follow-up all HVDC delivers with our suppliers and internal stakeholders. You will also need to collaborate with various cross-functional teams, suppliers and customers. You will work at the global market with possibility to many exciting travels to look forward to. You will be part of local management and act as a “sounding board” within the organization. Analysis and risk management will also be among your tasks. You will in many ways be the person at the center of things. Together with the tender responsible you will also handle tender calculations and pricing models. You will have a key role interacting with HVDC stakeholders in tender and project execution, engineering, R&D, general management levels at HVDC and Business Unit Grid Integration SCM organization.

Business Information:

The Hitachi Energy Indian Operations Center (INOPC) is a competence center with around 1500 skilled engineers who focus on tendering, engineering, planning, procurement, functional system testing, installation supervision and commissioning. However, over the last decade, it has evolved to become the largest engineering hub. The India Operations Centre is a key aspect of the Power Grids business Power Up transformation program. The INOPC team at Chennai supports Hitachi Energy’s units in more than 40 countries across a wide portfolio of all the four business units in Power Grid business. To date, the team has executed engineering and commissioning for projects in more than 80 countries.

Responsibilities:

  • Resource planning medium to long term and allocation based on the forecast of tenders & projects in collaboration with global organization.

  • Ensure KPI of the department (e.g. on time delivery, CR,CA,TCI and PBS , productivity)

  • Ensure achieving financial budget. 

  • Review and approve techno-economic offering by your line in a tender/project, assess risk and opportunity.

  • Run routine review & follow-up with the project team and other cross-functional teams, supplier and customers.

  • Recruit personnel as per HC budget.

  • Accountable for the team as per HIATCHI ENERGY Group compliance, Integrity, Health & Safety.  

  • Responsible for personnel assessments / people’s review, target setting for the direct reports.

  • Identify people’s development area(s) and implement.

  • Identify key competence area and have succession planning Strategic.

  • Participate in unit’s strategic work and develop local strategy.

  • Workout future scope expansion and competence development.

  • Drive operation development for the local organization.

Background:

  • B.Tech/ BE (Electrical / Mechanical) with SCM or equivalent experience.

  • Candidate should have 10+ years of experience in advanced category management and supply chain with a proven leadership experience, has previous experience of Line Manager/Team Leader at least 1-2 years and like to work with and develop people.

  • Genuine interested in technical components and systems and likes to interact with people.
    Familiar to work in a large project environment close to the customer.

  • Excellent written and spoken English, with proven skills in communication and PowerPoint.
    Superior negotiation skills in a multicultural and challenging global business environment.
    Good intercultural sensitivity, Strong leadership skills and Strong communication and collaboration skills required.    

  • Good at building extensive networks internally as well as externally.

  • Have an academic degree in Business or Engineering.

  • Described as energetic, motivated and self-confident person who can handle both ups and downs and manage problem that may occur.

  • You also like to set challenging goals and see them be realized.
