Commissioning Engineer - Control & Protection - HVDC

The Hitachi Energy Indian Operations Center (INOPC) is a competence center with around 1500 skilled engineers who focus on tendering, engineering, planning, procurement, functional system testing, installation supervision and commissioning. However, over the last decade, it has evolved to become the largest engineering hub. The India Operations Centre is a key aspect of the Power Grids business Power Up transformation program. The INOPC team at Chennai supports Hitachi Energy’s units in more than 40 countries across a wide portfolio of all the four business units in Power Grid business. To date, the team has executed engineering and commissioning for projects in more than 80 countries. HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) and HVDC Light® are highly efficient alternatives for transmitting bulk power and for special purpose applications. The classic HVDC technology is used to transmit electric power over long distances by overhead transmission lines or submarine cables. It is also used to interconnect separate power systems, where traditional alternating current (AC) connections cannot be used. HVDC Light® is an underground and submarine cable power transmission technology developed by Hitachi Energy that offers additional benefits compared to HVDC Classic. INOPC-HVDC is the operation center for Global HVDC, located in Chennai. This center operating since Sep 2007 and has grown in engineering skills and competence as fully integrated part of Global HVDC.

Mission Statement:

As a Commissioning Engineer Control & Protection with us, you will join an aspiring team that works with the HVDC Power transmission links. It is a diverse and independent job, within our project groups, with lots of responsibility and you will have great opportunities to develop your skills within HVDC. Our department is responsible for commissioning of Control & Protection of HVDC System. This includes documentation, Design, testing and commissioning of the control and protection systems. 

Your responsibilities:

  • You will be involved with HVDC System Control & Protection design and implementation across the global.

  • You will be responsible for Factory system test

  • You will travel during Factory System Test & Site commissioning     

  • On-site commissioning of HVDC Control & Protection System

  • You will be coordinate with different stakeholders across the business units to ensure smooth completion of the project deliverables.

  • Be flexible to work seamlessly to Collaborate with all required stakeholders (Installation, Construction, HSE Teams) at site.

  • Provides solutions and technical support to the commissioning engineers at site.

  • Prepare Inspection Test plan and Inspection Test reports.

Your background:

  • Bachelor’s in electrical & Electronics Engineering.

  • You should have experience of 2 to 5 years in Commissioning of Power System - Transmission & Distribution Projects.

  • Good experience in AC Control & Protection schemes.  

  • Must have knowledge on electric power system, automatic control theory & digital signal processing.

  • Exposure / Basic Knowledge in International electrical (IEEE/IEC) Standards.

  • Good knowledge on software development.     

  • HVDC knowledge and experience is preferred.
