Senior Controls Engineer

Essential Function: The Senior Controls Engineer is responsible for developing, introducing, and applying controls, such as electromechanical or electric controls, to support transformer components. This role requires knowledge of various engineering disciplines and their applications.

Under limited direction, the Senior Controls Engineer will perform a variety of complex engineering assignments requiring in-depth knowledge of a specific engineering discipline and an understanding of related disciplines to achieve objectives cost-effectively. Assignments typically require the use of advanced and innovative techniques. The engineer will proactively seek and implement initiatives to improve operations and increase customer satisfaction.

Typical Duties/Responsibilities:

1. Design, analyze, and evaluate systems, products, or components requiring high technical expertise.

2. Develop and design complex models or simulations and apply advanced computer programs, analytical techniques, or control strategies to meet requirements and resolve problems effectively.

3. Act as principal investigator or lead a group of engineers investigating problems, developing solutions, and preparing related recommendations and reports.

4. Prepare specifications, proposals for contracts, Bills of Materials, schematics, and assembly drawings to process orders based on customer specifications and standards.

5. Analyze new proposals, requirements, specifications, and products.

6. Participate in group meetings and conferences; interact with internal and external customers to resolve significant technical issues, root-cause analysis, and develop related action plans.

7. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve product design and performance.

Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's Degree in an engineering or related field plus 5 to 8 years of experience; alternatively, a special combination of higher education and experience and/or demonstrated accomplishments.

2. Understanding of various communication devices (SCADA, IEC 61850, etc.). Control and automation experience is a plus.

3. Prior experience in configuration, programming, testing, and troubleshooting of control devices, motor drives, and control cabinets.

4. Knowledge of AutoCAD, CREO, and E3 is highly desired.

5. Working experience with Windchill data management or any PLM software is highly desired but optional.

6. Experience with power systems and transformer substation control; transformer protection is highly desired.

7. Knowledge of industry standards, regulations, engineering principles, and best practices.
