Manager - Bids & Proposals Automation & Communication

General Information:

Manager – Bids and Proposals to manage a team of proposal engineers and technical specialists working in the Substation Automation and communications business, and covering the NAM geographical locations.  The ideal candidate would possess an electrical engineering degree and a minimum of five years relevant experience, in a supervisory role.  

Your Responsibilities:

  • Manage the team workload, and handle allocation and supervision of RFI’s, RFP’s quote requests etc. from internal and external customers for protection and substation automation systems, wired and wireless communications, protection, automation, wired communication, and wireless products.
  • Streamline team support to the Sales organization with bids, budgetary estimates, technical support packages, RFI support, etc. to name a few
  • Ensure compliance to gated sales processes, risk and operational reviews, global and HUB risk reviews, submission and approval of bid calculations, etc.
  • Ensure and organize team training to stay on track, technically & commercially.
  • Ensure the team complies with all ethics and other organizational requirements.
  • Ensure the team complies with proposals process flow charts and document each stage provides outputs promptly.
  • Utilize internal systems and processes for the generation of Proposals e.g. ISAAC as well as storage of all technical and pricing data generated during the process of generating proposals, in shared drive and one drive archives.
  • Develop and assist in the preparation of documents such as commercial agreements, and pricing spreadsheets, coordinate and supervise legal reviews, risk analysis, risk reviews, and related paperwork such as mitigation worksheets, cash flow information, and tax analyses for larger projects with the concerned proposal specialist. Participate and if required, lead in large bid negotiations.
  • Spearhead the preparation of Monthly reports and metrics, won/lost order matrices and analyses, together with sales, and conduct weekly tender updates with the working teams, OU manager and Sales managers.
  • Support in updating the marketing and proposal databases and systems to optimize the efficiency of the bid preparation processes.

Your Background:

  • Preferably a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Electronic, or communications engineering.
  • Candidate must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States.
  • Five-plus years of experience in the electrical power systems field within the substation or power automation systems domain will be preferred.
  • Supervisory experience with small to medium sized teams.
  • Desired competencies:
  • Knowledge of electrical power and industrial system applications
  • Knowledge of the MV/HV/EHV Power System Protection, Utility Communications, and Substation Automation systems business and customers
  • Knowledge and understanding of commercial terms and conditions, Incoterms, etc.
  • Excellent technical English writing skills. Some Spanish and French knowledge would be an added asset.
  • Strong communication skills are required to complement your ability to direct a team preparing routine and non-routine proposals.  The ability to manage and work well with others (sales, engineering, management, and vendors) in creating proposals that meet the customer’s expectations, is the overall goal.
  • Software skills and the ability to utilize organized database environments are a strong plus; Microsoft Office skills are a must. Knowledge of working with tools and portals such as salesforce.com, and other Hitachi Energy tools is desirable.
