Hitachi Energy is seeking a Senior Design Engineer that encompasses the investigation, analysis, and application to product development, requiring broad technical engineering knowledge of high voltage disconnectors. You will work as part of our high-voltage power products team, which engineers solutions and products such as circuit breakers, surge arresters, instrument transformers, capacitor banks, and disconnect switches.

Your responsibilities

  • Analyze engineering requirements of proposed projects or customer-specific orders, develop proposals, and coordinate associated activities, including product delivery, installation, and customer support.
  • Serve as technical expert and spokesperson for the organization on HV disconnector NAM business and exert considerable influence regarding focus and direction of engineering activities.
  • Negotiate matters of considerable significance with customers that may impact current and future business.
  • Design and develop solutions for customer engineering or retrofit solutions of disconnectors.
  • Participate in engineering drawing review discussions with the customer and respond to customer technical questions.
  • Maintain awareness of state-of-the-art technology and market trends affecting Companies' disconnector product offerings and services in the NAM market and recommend responsive actions.
  • Work & collaborate with the global R&D team on new product development and, if required, participate in product type testing in third-party independent laboratories.

Your background

  • BS Degree in Engineering or a 4-year degree in a Science-related discipline. A Masters Degree in the required field = Credit given for two years of work experience. Mechanical Engineering ME highly preferred.
  • Five years in engineering, specifically with Power Products or Industrial related electrical products.
  • Minimum four years of direct experience with a disconnector product line in design & retrofit solutions of high voltage vertical break disconnectors preferred.
  • Must understand mechanical engineering principles such as kinematics, force, deflection, stress & yield calculation, and torque.
  • Demonstrate ability to understand design and drafting standards, ability to read, analyze and interpret IEEE standards, engineering drawings, and technical procedures.
  • The candidate should have excellent verbal and written English communication skills. Prior experience working with end customers is preferred.
