Our R&D engineers develop breakthrough technologies that change the way the world works, and industries do business. Working in an international team, your focus will be to deliver digital solutions for our Automation Product Line. You will be part of a team that is responsible for defining, building, and prioritizing solutions and new software applications for On-premise, Public and Hybrid Cloud platforms to enable real-time digital experiences for Grid Edge Solutions customers. You will work on defining architecture concepts for solutions and software applications, and as an R&D Principal Software Engineer you will collaborate as a team leader with our development team within our organization to jointly produce the solution/application necessary to fulfill the product roadmaps. The R&D team is in Grid Automation offices located in Genova, Italy. You will be part of a global R&D team; you shall interact with R&D organizations and Operational units across the globe.

Your responsibilities

• Leads software development team
• Architect server-side and front-end applications for on premise and cloud deployments
• Defines architecture patterns
• Develops, document and validate software
• Explore and prototype solutions by apply new and best-fit technologies
• Reduce technology risk for future product development projects by exploring technology challenges and candidate solutions
• Apply best practices for software development and its Lifecyle management
• Analyze current technologies stacks (both backend and frontend) used by various programs and products within GES and identify improvements (replacement, re-architect, re-factor)
• Conduct reviews and architecture evaluations with other product architects in all aspects of the architectural work especially in the design of new or existing products
• Review, monitor, and validate product requirements needed to be in continuous software delivery and deployment to production environments
• Provide detailed architecture specifications to software development teams in alignment with technology and product strategy

Your background

• MS or PhD in Computer Science, Software engineering, Computer Engineering or related field
• 8+ years’ experiences in enterprise and/or solution architect role
• Broad IT/SW background and willingness to quickly acquire in-depth knowledge of new technologies and application domains with creativity, enthusiasm, and result orientation
• Familiarity with common PaaS platforms such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, Google Cloud
• Experience with architecture patterns for microservices based software
• Experience in SW development on multiple platforms and languages including .NET technology stack: C#, Python, Node.JS, REST Web Services
• Experience with technology stack for real time messaging and events streaming, routing and storage like Rabbit MQ, Apache Kafka, PostgreSQL, and automation like Kubernetes / Docker
• Experience with SW lifecycle tools including IDE like Microsoft Visual Studio, and Azure DevOps
• Experience in designing and developing standard database objects tables, stored procedures, views, functions, indexes
• Experience with working in a fully agile development environment
• Fluency in written and spoken English, as well as excellent communication and technical writing skills
• Knowledge and previous work on applications applied to energy and renewables segments is considered as a plus
