General information:

You as a Project Engineer, will be part of Grid Automation business based in Modderfontein, South Africa. Reporting to the Technical Lead: Telecommunications, you are responsible for acting as an engineer design authority for telecommunication projects on assignments classified as low engineering complexity. Engineering discipline lead on small projects or portions of larger projects. Completing engineering assignments efficiently and cost-effectively and in accordance with contract specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements.

Responsibilities:

Technical contribution: Creating the engineering design concept/philosophy definition. Evaluating, selecting, and applying standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform engineering assignments. Reviewing and approving design deliverables for telecommunication engineering and acts as the technical lead with the client. Providing technical support for testing, installation, and commissioning activities. Sales: Assisting in creating proposals for engineering projects or programs through provision of bills of materials and estimated engineering hours for own discipline. Contract management: Supporting contract managers in issuing claims. Planning and control: Creating work plans and cost estimates for work in own area of responsibility and proactively manages this work to deliver the agreed program on time, on quality and at the targeted cost. Risk and opportunity management: Ensuring completion of risk and opportunity assessments and the implementation of resulting actions for own projects. Reporting early any contract/quality/program/cost issues to management. Customer: Acting as the Hitachi Energy technical lead for telecommunication engineering on a project. Interacting with customers and officials, contractors, and others. Attending project meetings and presents specific aspects of engineering assignments. Ensuring that Hitachi Energy is presented as a professional organization in all interactions with the customer. Supply chain management: Collaborating with the Supply Chain function to ensure that the technical requirements for equipment or services are communicated and agreed with potential suppliers. Providing technical evaluation of supplier proposals. Processes and tools: Accepting as fit for purpose supplied equipment or services. Using standard processes and tools applicable to own area. Safety and Integrity: Living Hitachi Energy's core values of safety and integrity, which means taking responsibility for your own actions while caring for your colleagues and the business.

Your background:

A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. Experience in telecommunication systems including fixed line fiber and copper networks wireless networks and IP Networking proficiency required. ECSA registered candidate or better. Proficiency in both spoken & written English language is required.
