IP Counsel/Senior IP Counsel

General information:

The role is responsible for managing the creation and maintenance of high-quality patent portfolio on a global scale for assigned business group(s). Job Location: Switzerland (Baden), Italy (Milano) or Germany (Mannheim), other locations may be considered on a case by case basis. Global role with several options for location. This is a full-time position; home office or partial home office may be available depending on the regulations of the actual location. European Patent Attorney or qualification as national patent attorney strongly desired.

Responsibilities:

General advise to internal stakeholders, Business Units and especially Research and Development (R&D) function regarding all patent issues, closely working together with other dedicated members of the IP Team Actively defends and enforces IP against unauthorized use and misappropriation by third parties. The role ensures implementation of the Group IP strategy globally in order to defend and protect Hitachi Energy assets IP risk management including monitoring of competitor patent activities in the technical field and freedom to operate analyses Counseling on employee invention disclosures and leading filing strategies in line with the Global IP Strategy Patent applications: Drives patent processing in the Region/Country/Business Unit, supervising drafting and prosecuting of patent applications with outside patent firms, including external supplier management Training: Educates on IP matters, provides patent training and creates IP awareness to various stakeholders/levels within the organization

Your background:

5 years of experience in patent prosecution and patent portfolio management either in industry or at patent firm Technical degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Physics, or equivalent if having sufficient technical experience in the fields of transformers, electrical engineering, and/or mechanical engineering. Experience in software and artificial intelligence related inventions strongly desired Has a strong attorney acumen with the ability to exercise strategic legal judgment in the company's interest while leading assigned responsibilities in a self-driven and professional manner Candidate must have a teamwork and collaborative spirit and must be able to work with a truly Global team across several countries with members from different cultures and backgrounds Willingness to continuously learn and improve performance, with an out-going and ownership-taking personality, Fluency in English language is required. Ability to communicate in German language is a plus
