Hitachi Energy to provide expertise for new green hydrogen plants in Brazil

Green hydrogen (GH2) has been gaining greater relevance within the energy sector. In Brazil, the energy vector has come to be considered a vector of national reindustrialization, with the arrival of new players, public and private investments, and the emergence of hubs such as Pecém, in Ceará, which promises to be a strategic supply point for the North American and European markets.

And the prospects are even more encouraging: according to studies by B McKinsey & Company consultancy, Brazil should produce the cheapest green hydrogen in the world by 2030, at a value of 1.45 dollars per kilogram, and that the segment should create an investment opportunity of $200 billion in the country by 2040. “Hitachi Energy has made significant contributions to the energy transition in Brazil and with the growth of the green hydrogen market, we are working alongside companies interested in producing it, playing the fundamental role of carrying out feasibility studies for the implementation of new plants,” said Luis Meca, Power Consulting manager at Hitachi Energy in Brazil. “With our recently completed projects, several companies in the energy sector have trusted our advisory work while starting their production of green hydrogen in the country. Hitachi Energy, due to its in-depth knowledge of network connections, can study and supply a complete electrical system to connect electrolyzers, and is working in close cooperation with OEMs in the space.”

Hitachi Energy’s new customers needed a market strategy and the selection of equipment in the hydrogen generation process, in addition to consulting for the grid, where the company is a global leader. "We have also partnered with hydrogen production experts to serve our customers better,” said Meca.

Meca added, "As Power Consulting is a global unit, we can always tap into the learnings from other countries and combine it with the expertise we have developed in Brazil with our clients. Hitachi Energy is advancing the world’s energy system to be more sustainable, flexible and secure.”
