Hitachi Energy is seeking an Engineering Materials Specialist for its Engineering Hub function. This role is responsible for collaborating with the transformer factories across the North America region, and other stakeholders to drive the adoption of standard accessories / components. This role also provides technical / application support to different stakeholders within the company in development, verification and standardization of accessories and evaluation of available solutions in accordance with Industry, technical, quality & safety requirements. This position can be remote, with up to 15-20% travel required.

Your responsibilities

  • Maintain and update material technical specifications in coordination with Global Material Repository (GMR) teams
  • Collaborate with the Engineering teams to facilitate the integration of standard materials / components within their factories and design tools
  • Support Supply Chain in the development of new suppliers, identify opportunities for cost reduction based on technical requirements and data analysis, support them on finding and evaluating potential substitutions
  • Supports the development of data base for standard materials / components
  • Recommend enhancements to drawings and existing specifications
  • Collaborates with GEC team members for mapping and analysis of information
  • Supports the definition of process flows for components and standards handling
  • Health, Safety and Environment (HSE): Ensures that Group and local health, safety and environmental guidelines and directives are implemented

Your background

  • Bachelor degree in Material Science, Materials or Mechanical Engineering and two (2) or more years of materials industry experience. Alternatively, a Masters degree in Material Science, Materials, or Mechanical Engineering as a substitute for industry experience
  • Candidate must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and supplier network for as casting, machining, forging, welding, annealing, surface treatment
  • Experienced in data-driven material study
  • Previous experience with electrical steel, transformer core, conductor foil/wire, production, slitting/cutting processes, or with production processes in the field of sheet metal processing is an advantage
  • Strong Technical problem-solving skills and in-depth understanding of quality control/assurance methods in the metal processing production environment
  • Familiarity with ANSI/IEEE, UL, CSA for transformers and components is desired
  • Experience with Standardization of parts is desired
