Ramkumar D is Senior Vice President, Hitachi Energy IndiaLimited, and the business head of the Grid Integration business line within Hitachi Energy India. For close to a decade, he has been handling the company’s substations product group and driving its digitization initiative through data monitoring, analysis and predictive maintenance. From ultra-high voltage transmission substations to industrial electrification projects, ABB technology is built in pursuit of stronger, smarter and greener grid.
With 26 years of experience in the energy sector, Ramkumar has lent his vast engineering and project management experience to ABB. Before his current role, he headed ABB’s sales and marketing function for substations. He handled project marketing for various extra-high-voltage air and gas-insulated switchgear substations for utilities and industries, and exports. During this tenure, he also expanded the businesses to countries such as Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bhutan.
He has several achievements to his credit, ranging from ensuring safety practices and quality in the business line and establishing “accident-free sites” in the past three years, to enhancing employee productivity, customer responsiveness and operational excellence through dedicated teamwork and timely completion of major projects.
He played an instrumental role in establishing the substation businesses in subcontinent countries for over a decade and helped in their further expansion in Vietnam and Philippines. In addition, he has been successful in implementing the system integration strategy with a focus on Digital Substation, Smart Ports Electrification, PV Solar Grid Connection, Wind eBOP, etc.
where he successfully executed major projects for substations in Ibri, Nizwa as well as in Sur Power House and Mawaleh. During the start of his career, he bagged several prestigious orders despite stiff competition.
Ramkumar graduated in electrical and electronics engineering from PSG College of Technology, Tamil Nadu, and is currently pursuing an MBA in International Business. In his free time, he enjoys running marathons or playing cricket.
