R&D Senior Mechanical Engineer

We are looking for an R&D Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Global R&D Community of Technology and Research Centers and to be based in Tuzla, Istanbul. Your primary responsibility will be to ideate, design and develop new technologies in the field of Transformer Accessories, with particular focus on product industrialization and on modernizing production processes and methods. As a member of the highly skilled Technology Center team, you will contribute to the roadmap execution in a professional way.

Roles and Responsibility:

  • The successful candidate will be part of R&D Team specialized in the Design and Development of Transformer Components such as Measurement and Safety Devices, Bushings and De-Energized Tap Changers.

  • Execute R&D projects on budget, quality and time by displaying project management and technical advanced skills in mechanical design.
  • Develop new technologies and products in the field of transformer accessories by running feasibility studies, proposing new technical concepts, design new products and simulate or testing their expected performances.
  • Being capable to apply concepts into final detailed mechanical design, using the necessary tools and demonstrating advanced knowledge of principles and practices in related practice areas. Experience in CAD environment design, especially Creo is a plus.
  • Make use of Innovative thinking out of the box to contribute to ideas generation and future product roadmap.
  • Find creative/innovative ways to tailor complex offering to business and customer needs.
  • Designing or improving innovative and cost-competitive components, products, processes and standards with a global approach and in alignment with R&D strategies and targets; evaluating new business requirements and cooperating with project stakeholders.
  • Perform Design review and provide technical support in domain of expertise to other departments when needed (product management, business development, marketing and sales, engineering, etc.)
  • Review project scoping and develop preliminary project budgeting; coordinating the engineering activities related to the R&D project; and reporting to management with systematic and high-quality documentation of work done for each phase of projects.
  • Supporting and coordinating the production of the prototype or test object, ensuring the preparation of the test document, coordination with production and test laboratories.
  • Following and reporting international regulations and standards related with transformer components.
  • Ensure that intellectual property rules are followed, and act accordingly.
  • Ensure the technical coordination among multi-disciplinary engineering teams and global technology centres.
  • Coach others in best practices and tools for successful project management.
  • Proactively exchange relevant information with sources within and beyond own area to increase efficiency, share relevant information with selected sources to ensure better results. Share technical knowledge with colleagues via various channels, including forums, training and coaching.
  • Be aware of HSE aspects and ensure compliance with applicable standards and regulations.

Qualification, Knowledge and Experience:

  • BS, MS or PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics Engineering, MSc or PhD degrees preferred.
  • 10 years’ or equivalent professional and/or academical experience in Technology Development, Product Development, Product Design and related workflows.
  • Working knowledge of Product Data Management (PDM), Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) (preferably Windchill) and SAP is required.
  • Knowledge about IEC and IEEE standards relating to Transformer Accessories is preferred.
  • Experience in manufacturing techniques, production processes, material selection, qualification and testing is a must.
  • Have knowledge about process improvement and operational excellence, with particular focus on Design for Excellence (DFM, DFA, …).
  • Lean 6 Sigma Green belt is preferred.
  • Knowledge of project management methodologies. Having a certificate in project management is preferred.
  • Very good communication skills in English and Turkish in oral and written form.
  • Ability to speak with and work together with the technical teams in different parts of the world.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs.
  • Analytical mind with strong planning and self-learning skills, teamwork & result oriented.
  • Available for international travels.
