Engineering Manager, APAC Automation & Communication

Mission statement:

Lead a number of engineering teams within a business unit. Drive teams' performance to ensure that safety, integrity, financial and contractual requirements are met. Initiate and

drive continuous improvement activities across teams.

Your responsibilities:

  • You will lead engineering teams which are responsible for several projects or business areas like projects, products & services, ensure delivery of a portfolio of projects “on time, in full” with a focus on safety, quality and customer satisfaction.

  • You will build, maintain customer relationships, seek feedback and provide innovative solutions to meet customer requirements and deliver improvements, provide engineering support during the bid phase, support presentation of proposals to customers, work with business development to target new opportunities, present new technology and innovation at conferences, client events.

  • You will oversee offshore back-office work within one’s area of responsibility, conduct regular progress review, identify and help mitigate contractual risk arising out of engineering deliverable, inspire back-office teams to own engineering solutions and feel part of wider APAC engineering backbone.

  • You will plan, forecast, evaluate and manage workload to ensure engineering teams are adequately resourced, develop and equip to meet business need, oversee planning and control process in the engineering teams, conduct regular review to ensure the teams are delivering work packages allocated according to the customer and Hitachi Energy obligation. You will create and implement plan to ensure that business risk identify and manage, opportunities maximize, ensure that require systems knowledge, develop and correctly implement.

  • You will facilitate best practice sharing within the engineering team, initiate and drive continuous improvement activities, develop, implement and improve relevant processes, policies and procedures to improve effectiveness across the engineering function, ensure (with HR support) that the area of responsibility is properly organized, staffed, skilled and directed, guide, motivate, coach and develop employees reporting directly and indirectly, within HR policies.

Your background:

  • Engineering/Trade qualifications – Electrical or equivalent.

  • More than 20 years of experience in Electrification, Power generation or Power T&D in similar role.

  • Experience across Electrical Industry, Utilities, Power T&D or Power Systems projects an advantage.

  • Knowledge of Quality standards, Lean Six Sigma and Continuous Improvement methodologies from Value engineering & problem-solving perspective will be a plus.

  • Awareness of power system technology, safety and IEC/IEEE standards.

  • Advanced computer skills across MS Office, MS Teams, Outlook, SharePoint.

  • Expresses opinions, able to work with multiple stakeholders and positions.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, high attention to detail.
