Field Service Control System Engineer


General Information:
 

In this role you will be part of Power Grids Grid Integration Service, a business unit within Hitachi Energy. Our North America Grid Integration Service team provides installation, commissioning, and service support for all customer installations including applications such as Series Capacitors (SC), Static VAR Compensators (SVC), STATCOM, Substation, Synchronous Condensers, and High Voltage DC converter stations (HVDC).

As a Field Service Control Engineer, you will work directly with our commissioning and service teams, with a focus on the control systems. The FSCE will serve as the control subject matter expert supporting commissioning through the plant’s lifecycle, including the warranty period. Your tasks will include fault tracing and corrections, supporting tendering, design, implementation, verification, on site commissioning/service, and phone support of control system components.  You will frequently collaborate with peers, engineering teams, project managers, suppliers, and customers to meet unique service and control functionality requirements.
 

Your responsibilities

  • Work in challenging service and project environments to meet customer requirements and expectations related to the control system, which can include HMI, MicroScada, ladder logic, advanced troubleshooting, system software updates.
  • Act as primary support for service team and customers in the field and phone.
  • Perform fault tracing, commissioning, correction, implementation, and verification of various elements of the control system delivery and maintenance.
  • Deliver control system focused training to internal team as customers.
  • Collaborate with team members to evolve our internal processes & other continuous improvement initiatives.

Your Background:

  • A Bachelor of engineering, with a specialization in Electrical Engineering, Power systems, automatic control theory, software engineering or similar is preferred.  Or combination of education and years of experience working with controls, PLCs, process automation in an industrial or power industry.
  • Experience working within computer-based control systems.  
  • Knowledge of substation products, equipment, and engineer concepts/practices.
  • Knowledge of Power Electronics, SVC, SC, or HVDC technologies is a plus.
  • Knowledge of electrical safety measures, safety regulations, and compliance.
  • Knowledge of the electrical standards (ANSI, CSA, IEC, and others).
  • Critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • Must be precise, organized, flexible & able to work autonomous.
  • Ability to operate in time critical, high-pressure scenarios.
  • High level communication skills.
  • Availability to travel within North America and abroad for extended periods.  This is a field position with travel up to 60%
