The opportunity:

Join us at Hitachi Energy's Grid Edge Solutions, Microgrids, and Battery Energy Storage business, where you'll tackle exciting engineering projects of medium to high complexity. As a Field Service Engineer, you'll be at the forefront of innovation, performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, warranty repairs, and commissioning activities on cutting-edge energy storage units at various BESS sites.

How do you make impact:

  • You will Perform regular inspections, maintenance, and annual capacity tests on energy storage systems to ensure optimal performance.

  • You will address technical and operational issues promptly, conduct warranty repairs, and propose product improvements.

  • You will support the project team during the commissioning of battery energy storage systems and related equipment.

  • You will Provide phone support and remote diagnostics to customers, maintaining and enhancing customer relationships through effective communication.

  • You will prepare and present analytical service reports, maintain accurate documentation related to site visits, and generate service work reports.

  • You will conduct risk assessments, implement safety measures, and ensure compliance with local safety regulations and standards.

  • You will serve as a local technical advisor in customer meetings and collaborate with the in-house system engineering group on product development.

  • You will communicate technical requirements to suppliers, evaluate supplier proposals, and ensure supplied equipment meets standards.

  • You will review, develop, and document quality standards, processes, tools, and techniques to enhance engineering efficiency.

  • This role involves traveling 70% - 80% of the time to support project commissioning and service the installed base. This may include overnight stays and international travel.

Your background:

  • Tertiary or degree qualifications in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.

  • Over 7 years of practical experience in engineering execution and delivery of large power system projects, particularly in battery energy storage and other power generation fields.

  • Extensive hands-on experience in power systems, power generation, and electrical engineering, with a strong focus on Drives, Solar, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and HV/LV power electronics, including inverters, converters, and transformers.

  • In-depth understanding of complex control system logic and hands-on proficiency with MODBUS protocols.

  • Proactive and highly organized, with the ability to meet deadlines and manage changing priorities effectively.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with high diligence and attention to detail.
