General Information:

The objective of the SCADA Engineer position is to support delivery of SCADA/DMS/EMS systems and applications globally. The following are some of the primary objectives of this role:

  • Deliver configured systems using Network Control approved product implementation standards
  • Acquire working knowledge of regional market needs and help drive standardization in the delivery process
  • Ensure adequate documentation of required processes and practices

Your Responsibilities:

  • Gather and validate data required to configure NM SCADA/EMS/DMS applications
  • Provide technical assistance in evaluating performance and results of SCADA/OMS applications, systems and procedures. 
  • Write and maintain functional specifications for new or modified business systems.
  • Translate business models into an information system representation.
  • Develop, coordinate, and implement plans to test business and functional processes during system development and quality assurance testing.
  • Process data to create electric system data models, defining and debugging geospatial databases and other SCADA/DMS/EMS related data.
  • Understand and be proficient in the use of NM software.
  • Track and identify changes to product documentation and support regional implementation units to understand changes in NM products.
  • Create or assist in the writing of user documentation, instructions, and procedures.
  • Monitor and document post-implementation problems and revision requests.
  • Conduct test of system functions, validate results, detect errors and coordinate resolution of identified problems.
  • Monitor system performance and tune software parameters prior to system delivery.
  • Review productivity reports and problem records to evaluate performance of computer system.
  • Read loading and running instructions for system software such as task scheduling, memory management, computer file system, or controlling computer input and output.
  • Write description of steps taken to configure systems and procedures required to implement requested functionality
  • Review and/or develop training material and user documentation and verify adequacy for delivered releases.
  • Provide problem solving, technical, and business expertise in the design, testing, and deployment of business applications.
  • International travel may be required.

Your Background:

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering or computer science field.
  • 2+ years of experience in the IT/IS industry in a technical support or consulting role (preferred).
  • Candidate must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States.
  • Knowledge of the Open Systems Interconnection model (OSI) model and data transmission and communication (preferred).
  • Knowledge of industry standard communication protocols such as DNP, IEC870.5, TASE.2 and others is preferred
  • Knowledge of programming languages including C and C++
  • Knowledge of Fortran (preferred)
  • Working knowledge of relational databases and data modeling
  • Excellent computer skills, including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Project, Microsoft Office and Microsoft Visio
  • A basic understanding of Operating systems (Windows and Linux)
  • A good understanding of Oracle and other database management systems.
  • Positive, proactive personality
  • Ability to read, write and communicate verbally in English
  • Desired Skills
  • A Master’s degree in a technical field or specific experience with SCADA systems
  • Knowledge of the Geo Spatial data modelling and familiarity with the ESRI model and tools
  • Knowledge of industry model standards such as the Common Information Model (CIM) standard
  • Understanding of power system models
