Electrical Engineer, Transformer Protection Devices

The opportunity

Hitachi Energy is looking for an Electrical Engineer to join our Product Development Team in our Alamo, TN facility. You will play a crucial role in the development and design of innovative products and systems that meet our customers' needs and industry standards. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams as well as work independently to ensure project specifications are met while adhering to industry standards and design best practices. Your expertise in engineering principles and practices will contribute to optimizing designs for performance, functionality, and sustainability.

How you will make an impact

  • Lead the development of design specifications and models, ensuring they meet all relevant standards and regulations.

  • Conduct thorough design reviews and verifications, implementing modifications to elevate project quality.

  • Monitor and manage project timelines, ensuring design milestones are achieved and projects are delivered on schedule.

  • Conduct risk assessments, develop mitigation strategies, and seek opportunities for design innovations.

  • Engage with customers to capture and incorporate their feedback into design solutions, enhancing customer satisfaction.

  • Collaborate with the supply chain team to ensure designs are manufacturable and cost-effective, selecting optimal materials and components.

  • Prepare and maintain detailed documentation that supports design processes and facilitates knowledge sharing.

  • Identify and implement continuous design improvements based on test results and industry best practices, enhancing quality and efficiency.

Your background

  • Degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or a related field.

  • Concentration or focus in Power Systems Engineering a plus

  • 2-5 years of experience in design engineering.

  • Experience in Power Systems a plus

  • Experience or coursework in Power Systems Protection, particularly fuses, huge plus

  • Master’s degree or PhD can substitute for work experience

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

  • Pro-active attitude, self-motivated and with a strong sense of ownership.

  • Open to change, feedback and continuous improvement.
