Head of Legal

General information:

You are expected to lead the legal function for Hitachi Energy at country level, applying the global strategy for the functional area and acting as country authority; Provide expert advice or legal guidance to the organization in the defined legal expertise or geographical area.

Your responsibilities:

  • You will provide expert advice or legal guidance to Hitachi Energy in Japan. Assists in setting, developing and leading strategy, objectives and targets for Hitachi Energy Japan in alignment with Hitachi Energy global strategy. Anticipate and identify legal issues of concern to management and proactively develops effective legal strategies and practical solutions. Provide expert advice or guidance to the organization on issues relating to integrity and data privacy.
  • You will lead projects of significant organization profile in own geographical and solve critical functional or geographical questions/problems across a demanding, broad environment. Ensure Hitachi Energy is protected and defended from/on legal issues.
  • You will provide legal advice and counsel to country management and oversees dispute and litigation matters as directed and in coordination with legal CoEs. Drive and ensure consistency in legal services and advice provided by the local in-house lawyers in the country.
  • You will ensure that targets and/or Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are achieved and delivers results to Hitachi Energy or country management and external stakeholders. Ensures that Hitachi Energy's performance for the function or geography is regularly reported.
  • You will drive behavioral change to continuously improve function or country performance through programs and initiatives. Facilitate the sharing of best practice and ensure harmonized and standardized processes throughout the country to deliver consistent and optimized support.
  • You will ensure all employees in the country understand Hitachi Energy integrity standards and act accordingly. Act as a personal role model for the organization in this regard.
  • You will investigate regulatory issues and resolves outstanding cases to minimize Hitachi Energy's legal exposure.
  • You will disseminate knowledge of own area within the wider legal community and the business, plans and coordinates qualification and training in country teams.
  • You will ensure good corporate governance in the area of accountability; manage implementation of the Code of Conduct in coordination with the CoE and on-going integrity training and assist in investigation and resolution of any integrity issues that arise.
  • You will manage, liaise with and oversee use of external service providers, including external counsel.
  • You will participate in defining the annual budget for area of responsibility and is accountable for managing performance against agreed financial targets and constraints.

Your background:

  • A Bachelor of Law degree from a reputable law school in Japan, a Master of Law degree from a reputable law school abroad or a JD from a reputable law school abroad will be a plus.
  • More than 15 years of post-qualification experience practicing contract, corporate law either as an associate at a reputable foreign or Japan law firm or in a major MNC.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Fluent English and Japanese language skills.
