Postgres Database Administrator / Engineer

Hitachi Energy is seeking a Postgres database administrator/engineer to support its operation and development teams. The primary focus of the role will be to support database administrative activities including but not limited to database patching, capacity and performance management and backup/recovery configuration and execution. Besides this the role will also require close cooperation with application architects and development teams to support them during the development lifecycle from an architectural and design perspective. 

Responsibilities 

• Create, administrate, and tune Postgres DB instances for high volume, mission critical systems throughout the development, test, and production lifecycle. 

• Design and develop logical and physical database designs from customer application requirements. 

• Support daily administration, monitoring, tuning, and troubleshooting in PostgreSQL clusters on Linux and/or cloud native installations (Azure/AWS). 

• Maintains security according to company guidelines and works closely with the IT Security teams to develop additional robust solutions and security audit reporting. 

• Experience in database development, using PostgreSQL extensions, migrating from SQL Server / Oracle to PostgreSQL. 

• Leading meetings and acting as a facilitator along with the ability to logically present and communicate ideas to work groups. 

• Collaborating with development teams and clients on ensuring smooth operations of database. 

• Develop and execute focused infrastructure projects such as upgrades and migrations. 

• Architect technology solutions and influence enterprise adoption through stakeholder management. 

• Trains other Application DBAs within the ESS Operational organization and acts as a mentor to less experienced staff. 

• Assists with related task planning, training and technical direction of other Applications Administrators, DBAs or IT software engineers and developers. 

Who Are You 

• Bachelor's degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience) along with 7+ years' related experience. 

• 4+ years of experience of database development, administration, and management for PostgreSQL (required). Experience with MS and/or Oracle SQL server is a plus. 

• 2+ years of working experience on Azure, AWS, or Google cloud database technologies. 

• Experience with optimizing database performance through testing and ongoing real-time monitoring. 

• Experience troubleshooting and solving complex databases schemas/warehouses. 

• Strong analytical and communication skills. 

• Good verbal, written communication, and presentation skills. 

• Excellent organizational, attention to detail, and follow-up skills. 

Nice to have: 

• Hands-on experience with infrastructure as code, Terraform and CI/CD Pipelines. 

• Hands-on experience with NOSQL databases like Cosmos DB, Redis etc.
