The opportunity

We are looking for a LCA Specialist for the Transformers Business to join our Sustainability team within one of our Technology Centers. You will be at the heart of realizing Hitachi Energy’s purpose of advancing a more sustainable energy future for all by strengthening our capabilities on managing the sustainability impact of our offerings today and support in defining our sustainability value proposition for mid- to long-term. In this role you will be part of a global, cross-functional community of dynamic and engaged professionals with a broad range of experiences and backgrounds.

How you’ll make an impact

  • Manage and further develop internal Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) and Lifecycle environmental Impact Assessment (LCA) methodologies and tools for transformers and their components.
  • Create LCA models and analysis reports of new materials, processes, and technologies in support of product innovations
  • Assess sustainability data from the supply chain in LCA models.
  • Perform full-scale LCA and product carbon footprint studies for external, third-party verifications as required and support corporate ESG reporting and commitments.
  • Support product teams on executing the sustainability impact transparency roadmap and provide guidance for the design and development of the future sustainability value proposition in the portfolio.
  • Support integrating sustainability and eco-design principles and tools into R&D and innovation processes.
  • Update and deliver internal presentations and trainings to different functions, and provide expert support to global project teams in R&D, business strategy, supply chain, and others.
  • Actively participate in transformers-related external sustainability standardization committees and industrial initiatives.
  • Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

Your background

  • Bachelors in Engineering with proven experience as environmental impact analysis expert in a consulting, industry and/or academic context.
  • Strong knowledge of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodologies and tools including experience in performing full-scale studies with LCA software tools, particularly SimaPro and GaBi.
  • University degree in sustainability, environmental science, engineering, business, or a related field.
  • Strong general quantitative and qualitative analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • A thorough understanding of sustainability topics and standards in the engineering and manufacturing industry of capital goods and services.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate complex information in clear, understandable ways to internal and external audiences.
  • Ability to work closely with large and complex remote teams and in a multi-country & -cultural environment.
  • Excellent project management skills with demonstrated capacity to take initiative, structure and prioritize work.
  • Proficiency in both spoken & written English language is required
