The Hitachi Energy factory in Bland, VA has an immediate opening for experienced Mechanical Engineering Manager.

The focus of this position will be the direct, and active management, of the mechanical design team for basic and complex dry type transformers production in accordance with customer specification and industry standards. Additionally, this position will apply state-of-the-art design methods, calculations, and prudent engineering practice to efficiently transfer these designs into a site production environment.  Application of your technical expertise and leadership is expected to engage and advance product and process improvement for all products within the site’s business scope.

This position will require Global Product Group collaboration to define and implement best design practices and common tools. The candidate will also work directly with local growth, product development and production teams to penetrate new markets with highly optimized customer solutions. The Mechanical Engineering Manager will report directly to the Bland Engineering Manager. 

 

Your Responsibilities: 

  • Drive the performance of the engineering function to ensure that all engineering activities meet the required safety, integrity, financial and contractual requirements. This will include initiating and driving continuous improvement activities across the function.  

  • Build effective team environments where individuals work collaboratively to achieve a well-defined strategy. 

  • Leverage a client-driven mentality that fosters strong customer relationships and long-term commitments. 

  • Use problem solving tools such as Root Cause Countermeasures, A3s, 8Ds, or equivalent. 

  • Generate weekly and monthly assessments for team financial and productivity performance tracking. 

  • Elevate our mechanical design team through effective hiring, development, training, apprenticeships, internships, etc. 

  • Assist or lead cross-functional teams to accomplish clearly defined goals and objectives that directly contribute to profitable growth in the organization.

Your Background:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or technical field of study and eight (8) or more years of experience; OR, Bachelor’s degree in Business or Management and ten (10) or more years of full-time direct mechanical team design oversite and/or management experience. 

  • Candidate must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States. 

  • Possess five (5) or more years dry type transformer design experience. 

  • Exposure to industry standards such as ANSI/IEEE C57.12.01, C57.12.51, C57.12.55, C57.12.90, C57.12.91, C57.96, C57.94, NFPA 70/National Electrical Code, UL, cUL, CSA and IEC 

  • Six Sigma Trained/Certified. 

 
Preferred Qualifications 

  • Proficiency in fundamental business tools such as Microsoft Suite applications and related business and engineering software applications (CAD/AUTOCAD, SolidWorks, CREO, Visio, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, etc.) 

  • Experience with Design and Process FMEA’s. 

  • Experience working in multinational teams. 

  • Experience with mechanical and/or electrical simulations. 

  • Professional Engineer.   

  • Lean Manufacturing training and implementation experience.
