Primary Engineer (CDAE)

The opportunity

Hitachi Energy are hiring a Primary Engineer (CDAE) to join the team. This opportunity will be ideal for anyone with a passion and desire to deliver within applications engineering, we are looking for someone with an eye for detail and able to prepare documentation and diagrams. In this role, you will be responsible for the technical expertise in the design and installation of Substation Layouts for 400kV to 11kV substation projects.

To be considered you must be CDAE authorised.

Please note this position is of a hybrid nature (2/3 days working out of our central Birmingham office). Please also note we are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position.

How you’ll make an impact

  • To provide substation layouts and associated detail diagrams in accordance with established UK standards and processes through allocated CAD resource locally and in other business units.

  • To develop technical specifications and material schedules for primary equipment.

  • To prepare conductor force calculations.

  • To check and approve project documentation in accordance with established standards.

  • To ensure own work packages and delegated work packages are delivered to project programme, scope and align to allocated budget. Provide comment where required on delegated works.

  • Provide technical support and to develop tender scheme options and related project scope documents.

  • To produce engineering time estimates and support monthly forecasts to complete.

  • To input into design and hazard review meetings.

  • To provide technical support at site when required.

Your background

  • Minimum qualification of HNC/HND in the related engineering field

  • Proven knowledge of Transmission or Distribution practices (400kV to 11 kV)

  • Good teamwork, Analytical and communication skills

  • Ability in working to tight deadlines and working in high pressurised environments

  • Working knowledge of Windows and MS Office, Autocad.

  • Electricity supply industry experience

  • Understanding / Knowledge of Distribution Network Operator / National Grid etc. standards and drawing practices
