Research Scientist in High-Speed Dynamics Simulations and Design

The opportunity:

For our research center in Krakow/Poland, we are looking for a Researcher with expertise in high-speed (explicit) dynamics simulations and design. You will join a dynamic, motivated, and creative team with a broad range of experience and competencies. As part of our team, you will combine theory with practice, creating, testing, and validating new technologies to enable the energy transition.

How you will make an impact:

  • Propose, contribute to, and lead research and development projects for numerical simulations of products for energy systems.

  • Provide results for static and dynamic coupled thermomechanical simulations. Formulate clear conclusions and practical recommendations for the business. Report your work and findings in project documentation.

  • Collaborate globally with teams of researchers and engineers at Hitachi Energy to identify, analyze, and solve real-world challenges in optimizing designs for future-generation products.

  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of the latest numerical analysis technologies, algorithms, and software packages. Recognize opportunities for their practical application in industrial conditions.

  • Actively promote your knowledge within the company and outside.

  • Collaborate with local and global external partners, including universities, startups, and vendors.

  • Disseminate your results in technical reports, scientific publications, research conferences, and patent applications.

Your background:

  • Master’s or PhD degree in Mechanics, Material Engineering, or related field.

  • Strong fundamentals in mechanical design, dynamic and static analysis, material strength, and a basic understanding of typical manufacturing technologies.

  • Working experience (2+ years) with CAD/CAE modeling and FEM analysis. Knowledge of the commercial tools (e.g., Ansys, ABAQUS, LS/Dyna, COMSOL, CREO, …)

  • Understanding of FE algorithms, including linear and non-linear static, implicit and explicit dynamics (large deformation, short-circuit forces, seismic analysis, fluid-structure interaction), vibration (modal analysis, vibroacoustic, damping, …), fracture mechanics.
Knowledge about fluid dynamics and heat transfer will be a plus.

  • Ability to model various material types: metals, thermoplastics and thermosets, fiber composites, elastomers and rubbers, liquids and gasses.

  • Willingness to take an interdisciplinary approach and learn new knowledge when working with experts from different domains.

In addition, the following skills would be beneficial for the role:

  • Ability to write simple codes and user subroutines in CAD/CAE software packages.

  • Knowledge about power network business, green energy, respective requirements, and industry standards.
