The opportunity:

As a Service Engineer for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), your mission is to lead and execute comprehensive on-site Service support and technical support (Remote support), functional verification, and performance optimization of BESS control and automation systems globally. You will ensure the seamless integration and reliable operation of Battery Management Systems (BMS), Power Conversion Systems (PCS), Energy Management Systems (EMS), and associated control logic, delivering safe and high-performing BESS solutions to our customers worldwide.

How you’ll make an impact:

  • Lead the end-to-end functional testing and verification of BESS control logics, including BMS, PCS, and EMS.

  • Verify the accurate configuration and operation of PLCs, RTUs, IEDs, and associated control logic for BESS applications.

  • Perform comprehensive communication tests to ensure robust data exchange between all BESS components and the overarching control system using various industrial protocols.

  • Validate SCADA HMI screens and dashboards for real-time monitoring and control functionality on-site.

  • Lead by example, strictly adhering to all Hitachi Energy HSE Operating System, site-specific safety protocols, and Live Saving Rules during all on-site activities.

  • Conduct proactive risk assessments (RAMS) and implement mitigation strategies for all commissioning tasks.

  • Verify that BESS control and safety systems comply with relevant international and local standards (e.g., ISO/IEC, grid codes, electrical safety regulations).

  • Prepare detailed Service reports, test protocols, as-built documentation, and punch lists for BESS control and automation systems.

  • Provide comprehensive hands-on training and technical support to client operations and maintenance teams, ensuring their capability to operate and maintain the BESS.

  • Contribute to the internal knowledge base by documenting common troubleshooting scenarios, developing best practices, and proposing improvements to Service procedures and tools based on field experience.

  • Participate    in     cross-functional    project                   meetings,                   providing                   crucial Service insights for planning and scheduling.

  • Liaise   effectively   with   remote   engineering           teams         (electrical,       software, protection) for technical support and complex issue resolution.

  • Coordinate with vendors and suppliers of BESS components to resolve technical issues and ensure system compatibility during Breakdown/Maintenance.

  • Maintain    clear    and    concise                communication            with                clients  regarding Maintenance/Breakdown progress, challenges, and resolutions.

  • Set up alarms, trends, and reports for performance monitoring and fault detection.

  • Analyze system data to identify inefficiencies and recommend improvements.

  • Prepare technical documentation including system architecture, configuration manuals, and user guides.

  • Provide training and support for operations and maintenance teams.
