Low voltage grid application engineer

The opportunity

As part of the newly formed Global Product Group Distribution Automation Hitachi Energy, you will be an important part of early customer engagement projects and product strategy. Reporting to the product management and pre-sales organization, you will be a part of a dynamic expert team, operating globally and collaborating with various functions, e.g. R&D and sales. This is an opportunity to contribute and grow in a company of 100+ year legacy in the power grids and industrial applications segments and bring your expertise to create an offering that lasts.

This position is hybrid, based in Kraków.

How you’ll make an impact

In this role you will focus on product specification, design, engineering and deployment, supporting both Distribution Automation product and solutions. To be successful, you will need a deep technical expertise in grid applications and related technologies, with an appreciation of sales and market positioning. As our ideal candidate, you will:

  • Bring strong knowledge in power distribution applications, including standard grid protocols (IEC104, DNP3, IEC 61850 etc.), FDIR/ FLISR, Volt/Var, protection and control, SCADA, sensing and measurement technologies, as well as PLC based applications.
  • Have a deep understanding of the Hitachi Energy product portfolio or equivalent and can apply this knowledge to solve business and customer problems by integrating different applications.
  • Lead the requirement specification for products in the Distribution Automation portfolio
  • Conduct technical feasibility studies, proof of concepts, and homologation for new products and solutions.
  • Develop templates for different application topologies and build tested, validated, and approved kits and packages to be easily used and replicated​
  • Analyze customer pain points and business problems to deliver specific technical solutions
  • Prepare and deliver detailed technical presentations, as well as product and solution documentation.
  • Maintain strong relationships with internal technical teams to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Stay updated on the latest automation and communication technologies and trends, sharing insights with the team.
  • Support sales teams by providing technical expertise during customer engagements and proposal development, selecting the appropriate product/ solution, validating the proposal and leading customer technical discussions.
  • Assist in market research and competitive analysis to inform product positioning and business development.

Your background

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering with 5-10 yrs. of experience, preferably in Electrical & Electronics
  • Proven experience in technical roles (engineering, technical support, solution design) with exposure to sales engineering.
  • Strong understanding of automation technologies, distribution networks, and relevant industry standards.
  • Excellent communication, problem‑solving, and presentation skills in English; additional languages are a plus.
  • High customer orientation and the ability to translate needs into concrete solutions.
  • Competence in PLC and edge compute applications coding is an advantage.
  • Ability to travel up to 30% of time.
