R&D Internship in Software Engineering and Data Analysis 80 - 100 % (f/m/d)

The opportunity

In our Product Evaluation and Qualification team (PEQ) at Hitachi Energy Semiconductors, we ensure the reliability and robustness of semiconductor devices through advanced testing and analysis. We offer an internship at the intersection of engineering, data, and software development, where you will contribute to improving internal workflows and engineering efficiency through modern digital solutions. As an intern, you will support the design and implementation of software tools, working with data processing, automation, and system integration. You will collaborate with experienced engineers and gain hands-on experience in a real industrial environment. This internship provides an opportunity to develop practical skills in programming, data handling, and engineering applications. The duration is 6 - 12 months.

How you'll make an impact

  • Support the design and implementation of software tools to improve engineering workflows

  • Develop Python scripts for: data processing and analysis, automation of repetitive tasks as well as generation of reports and summaries

  • Work with different data sources (e.g., measurement data, reports, logs) and transform them into structured, usable information

  • Contribute to the integration and application of AI-based methods to enhance data analysis and information extraction

  • Support the setup and integration of software components in a local environment

  • Collaborate with engineers to identify improvement opportunities and translate them into practical solutions

  • Troubleshoot and optimize tools to ensure reliability and usability

  • Document your work clearly, including design decisions, implementation, and results

Your background

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field

  • Strong programming skills in Python and experience with data processing and analysis

  • Basic understanding of machine learning / AI concepts or experience using AI tools (e.g., LLMs, APIs, or local models)

  • Familiarity with Linux environments and basic system operations

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently on technical tasks

  • Good communication skills in English to document work and present results clearly
