On 1 July 2006, two young engineers joined the company on the very same day. Fresh out of university, they could not have imagined that this decision would turn into a 20-year journey within Power Consulting.
Today, Kondalarao Bavisetti (Unit Manager, India) and Umamaheswara Rao Madugula (Unit Manager, UK) represent what long-term growth and continuous development can look like within our community.
Their story is not just about staying, it’s about evolving, leading and finding purpose along the way.
Both Kondalarao and Uma joined through campus recruitment, drawn by the opportunity to work in their core field: power systems.
“Getting the job in your core domain is even a bigger dream,” says Kondalarao.
“I waited months for this opportunity, this was the place I wanted to be.”
Starting in Vadodara, far from their hometowns, everything was new: new city, new team, new challenges. But one thing was clear: they had stepped into a field where they could apply what they had learned in real-world situations.
Their journey actually began even earlier, during their master’s thesis work within the company’s R&D environment, where they first met and started working together.
Their entry into consulting was not planned, it was an opportunity that arose when Power Consulting was just starting to grow.
With very few senior colleagues at the time, they were quickly given responsibility.
“We learned together, worked together, and handled real projects from the beginning,” Uma recalls.
“There were challenges, but that gave us real exposure.”
Applying theory in practice turned out to be a defining moment.
“We were implementing what we studied, that gave a very good feeling,” says Uma.
“After that, we didn’t look back.”
Over the years, both careers were shaped by challenging assignments, supportive leaders, and continuous learning.
A key element was the encouragement to take initiative:
“If you fail, no problem. Fail fast and learn,” Uma remembers from his early days.
For Kondalarao, trust played a major role:
“My manager told me, ‘I am there just go ahead.’ That confidence made a big difference.”
Their work brought recognition, not only as part of the organization but also as individuals in the market.
“You build your own approach,” says Kondalarao.
“And you gain respect not only for the company, but also personally.”
Both journeys include key decisions and opportunities that shaped their careers.
For Uma, moving to the UK in 2017 was transformative. Starting as a consultant, he soon stepped into the Unit Manager role.
“It was challenging in the beginning. The team was small, and the market competitive,” he says.
“But over time, with support and persistence, we built something strong.”
For Kondalarao, international exposure played a major role. Working closely with US teams and later relocating there allowed him to build global experience.
“I had the freedom to explore and learn from different markets,” he explains.
“That helped me bring new perspectives back to India.”
Returning in 2020 to lead the India consulting unit marked his transition into leadership.
“It was a big step: from individual contributor to leading a team,” he says.
Even after two decades, both remain highly engaged and motivated.
For Uma, it’s the team and culture:
“The team works very hard to solve complex problems - and I still learn from them.”
“We work like a family. That collaboration is very special.”
For Kondalarao, it comes down to passion and purpose:
“It’s not about how long you stay, it’s about being in a place you enjoy.”
“If you are passionate, people recognize that.”
Their roles may have changed, but their motivation remains rooted in learning, impact, and people.
Both leaders challenge the idea that consulting is only a short-term stepping stone.
“At the end of the day, what matters is that you are happy in what you do,” says Kondalarao.
He highlights the importance of patience:
“You may not see immediate results, but over time, you see real growth and visibility.”
Uma adds a broader perspective:
“It’s not just about money. It’s about exposure, learning, and contributing to society, especially through sustainability.”
Power Consulting offers a unique position within the organization, connecting technologies, systems, and customers.
“This is the place where you see the full portfolio,” Kondalarao explains.
“You are not limited. You work across products, systems, and real networks.”
Uma emphasizes the impact:
“We may be small in size, but the value we create across projects is enormous.”
This combination of technical depth and business impact makes consulting a powerful career path.
Over the years, the role of consulting has changed significantly.
“Earlier, consulting was needed when something failed,” says Kondalarao.
“Now, customers see us as strategic partners.”
In markets like the UK, this shift is clear:
“Consulting is now central to major projects,” Uma adds.
“Customers involve us early and rely on our expertise.”
Both see strong growth ahead as the energy transition accelerates.
“We are moving toward a sustainable and electrified future,” says Uma.
For Kondalarao, increasing complexity will drive demand:
“Where there is complexity, there is a need for consulting: from renewables to data centers and electrification.”
Their message to colleagues is simple but powerful:

“Every day you challenge yourself and learn,” says Kondalarao.
“That’s what makes this a lifelong journey.”
