Hitachi ABB Power Grids to support government push for offshore wind energy in Poland

Hitachi ABB Power Grids has joined as a Co-operating Partner, a Government of Poland initiative to support the development of offshore wind, a key initiative led by the Ministry of Climate.

“Taking into account the potential of the Baltic Sea, we expect that offshore wind energy will become an important element of the Polish energy mix.” says Ireneusz Zyska, Vice Minister of Climate. “We are pleased to have the support of Hitachi ABB Power Grids, who bring considerable expertise and experience.”

Offshore wind energy is highlighted in Poland’s 2021-2030 National Energy and Climate Plan as a key initiative to achieve the EU's renewable energy target for 2030. It is one of the strategic projects of the Polish Energy Policy 2040 and is expected to contribute significantly towards addressing the generation mix and enhancing of security of energy supply, while reducing emissions.

“We have the technologies, domain expertise and a strong track record in the wind sector, having executed several key offshore wind projects. Our world class production unit in Lodz is a lead center for transformers used in wind farm installations across the globe”, says Paweł Łojszczyk, Managing Director of Hitachi ABB Power Grids in Poland.

As part of the collaboration, Hitachi ABB Power Grids will be an integral part of the working group initially tasked with the development of a report outlining the current situation and the potential for development.
