The opportunity

We are currently seeking an enthusiastic, flexible and curious Senior Protection Engineer to strengthen our innovative engineering and testing team that specializes in the control and protection area of substation automation projects.

As a Protection Engineer, you will be responsible for the successful execution of the control and protection scope of our substation automation projects globally. Within those projects, you will be working closely together with the project manager, the SCADA engineer and the customer in successfully delivering those projects. Depending on the size of the project, you will technically lead a small team of engineers, based in our global engineering centers, that support you in delivering the project on time and with the highest quality. In addition, you will be part of a large world-class engineering community within our Hub Europe organization, surrounded by colleagues with many years of expertise and know-how in executing large and complex substation automation projects globally. How you'll make an impact

  • Develop together with the project core team the protection and control concepts for (sub-)transmission systems in close collaboration with the customer.
  • Be responsible for leading the hardware design of the bay level cubicles within the substation.
  • Be responsible for the configuration of Protection and Control IEDs for (sub-)transmission substations in line with customer specification.
  • Be responsible for the factory testing of the project within our test area in Vaasa and lead the Factory Acceptance Test in front of our customer.
  • Be responsible for the control and protection part site test at customer sites.
  • Lead a small team of engineers, based in our global engineering centers.

Your background 

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, computer or systems engineering, or related field.
  • Previous experience in substation control and protection systems and communication protocols like IEC61850.
  • Previous experience with our Hitachi Energy protection and control IED portfolio (Relion family and PCM600) and/or previous experience with E3.series (for hardware design) is a big plus.
  • Open-minded team player with high standards towards customer focus, safety, quality and efficiency. Ability to work independently but also to coordinate with different stakeholders within the project team.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
  • Structured and proactive engineering approach, with a high commitment towards maintaining project budget and project plan.
  • Spoken and written proficiency in Finnish and English language.
