Engineering Head – High Voltage GIS Switchgear

The Opportunity

The Engineering Head – HV GIS Switchgear is responsible for overall leadership, performance, and technical governance of Primary Engineering, Secondary Engineering, and Steel / Structural Engineering for Gas‑Insulated Switchgear (GIS). The role ensures safe, compliant, cost‑effective, and on‑time engineering delivery to projects and factories, while driving standardization, design quality, productivity, and continuous improvement across engineering disciplines.

How you’ll make an impact

• Lead and develop multidisciplinary engineering teams covering: Primary Design Engineering (HV GIS); Secondary / Protection & Control Engineering; Steel / Mechanical & Structural Engineering
• Define and deploy engineering strategy, skill roadmaps, and capacity planning aligned with business growth.
• Build a strong engineering culture focused on quality, accountability, standardization, and safety.
• Ensure on‑time, on‑quality engineering deliverables for customer and factory projects across voltage levels (e.g. 145 kV / 245 kV / 420 kV GIS).
• Own engineering delivery in alignment with project milestones, Bill of Materials (BOM), and Manufacturing readiness.
• Provide senior technical decision‑making, escalation handling, and risk mitigation for complex projects.
• Own and enforce technical governance for GIS engineering in line with: IEC / IEEE / IS standards; Customer specifications; Hitachi Energy engineering rules and design manuals
• Ensure robust design review, checking, and approval processes across primary, secondary, and steel engineering.
• Oversee type‑test engineering interfaces, design validations, and technical risk reviews.
• Drive standardization of designs, modularization, and reuse across GIS platforms.
• Improve engineering productivity through: Optimized engineering processes; Digital tools (3D, CAD, PLM, BOM automation); Reduction of project‑specific rework and deviations
• Champion Design‑to‑Value (DtV) and engineering‑led cost improvement initiatives.
• Partner closely with: Product Management & R&D; Manufacturing, Quality & Supply Chain; Project Management & Tendering; Installation, Commissioning & Service teams
• Act as the single point of accountability for engineering interfaces with manufacturing and global engineering counterparts.
• Attract, retain, and develop engineering talent across disciplines.
• Build competence frameworks, mentoring programs, and succession plans.
• Ensure continuous upskilling in HV GIS technology, standards, tools, and project execution.
• Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

Your background

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (mandatory), Master’s degree in Electrical / Power Systems / Mechanical Engineering preferred
• Typically 15+ years experience in High Voltage Switchgear engineering
• Strong hands‑on background in HV GIS technology
• Proven leadership experience managing large, multi‑disciplinary engineering teams
• Solid exposure to: Primary GIS design; Secondary / protection systems; Steel / mechanical & structural engineering
• HV standards, testing, and manufacturing interfaces. Deep technical expertise in HV GIS switchgear
• Strong people leadership and organizational skills. Structured problem‑solving and decision‑making
• Ability to balance technical quality, cost, and delivery. Cross‑cultural and global stakeholder management
• Clear, confident, executive‑level communication. Direct impact on project delivery reliability, product quality, and factory performance
• Key contributor to customer satisfaction, margin protection, and business growth
• Defines the technical credibility and capability of PGHV GIS engineering in India
• Proficiency in both spoken & written English language is required
