Global SCM Material Sustainability Lead (f/m/d)

The opportunity

Hitachi Energy is seeking a Global SCM Material Sustainability Lead for the Business Unit Transformers to join our innovative and forward-thinking team. In this role, you will lead the end-to-end management of the Material Sustainability pillar, aligning methodologies for environmental impact assessments, defining processes, implementing initiatives, and monitoring progress across the business unit. How you will make an impact

  • Contribute to the development of the business unit’s supply chain sustainability strategy, focusing on material sustainability and alignment with business objectives.
  • Monitor emerging material sustainability trends, regulatory changes, and customer requirements, integrating them into strategic and operational plans.
  • Develop standardized process flows for material sustainability requirements, ensuring seamless coordination and effective implementation.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance material sustainability, driving projects such as decarbonization efforts and improving practices with key global suppliers.
  • Implement performance monitoring systems to track progress against material sustainability goals, enabling data-driven decisions and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive database of primary sustainability data for materials, ensuring accurate information and promoting adoption across the supply chain. This includes defining the data needed to enable consistent LCA/EPD/PCF assessments and comparable material-level impact evaluations.
  • Engage with suppliers and cross-functional teams to guide strategic suppliers toward emission-zero goals and sustainable practices.
  • Develop and deliver training on material sustainability topics, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and best practices across the SCM community.
  • Align the BU Transformers methodologies for assessing material environmental impacts in line with evolving LCA/EPD standards.
  • Apply these methodologies to transformer-relevant materials and decisions by defining measurable requirements for suppliers and by supporting internal stakeholders with actionable guidance for material choices, claims, and customer requests.

Your background

  • Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in supply chain management with focus on sustainability, with proven leadership in strategy and roadmap creation, preferably within global or large-scale organizations.
  • Strong expertise in materials sustainability standards such as ISO 14040/14044, ISO 14067, the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, and related frameworks.
  • Extensive experience with Life Cycle Assessments (LCA), Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), and implementing global sustainability programs related to materials and suppliers.
  • Strong leadership skills with a track record of developing and executing strategic initiatives in complex, international environments.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and influencing skills, with the ability to build relationships and inspire change at all organization levels.
