Design Engineer - Digital Control System

Mission Statement:

As a Design Engineer - Digital Control System, you will be part of Operation Center, India (INOPC-PG), aiming to develop a global value chain, where key business activities, resources, and expertise are shared across geographic boundaries to optimize value for Hitachi Energy customers across markets. As part of Transformers BU, we provide high-quality engineering and Technology to Hitachi Energy world. This is an important step from Hitachi Energy's Global Footprint strategy.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Having an enthusiasm to translate complex customer requirements into region‑compliant, production‑ready TXpert Hub cabinet designs, taking full ownership from concept to release.
  • Lead and manage tender and order engineering in parallel, shaping competitive technical solutions during bidding and converting them into robust execution designs (electrical and mechanical).
  • Act as the technical authority in interpreting, challenging, and refining customer specifications, balancing feasibility, compliance, cost, and performance.
  • Perform tender‑phase (pre‑order) engineering, including analysis of customer specifications and RFQs, definition of technical concepts, configurations, and compliance approaches.
  • Execute order‑phase engineering, converting tender concepts into project‑specific designs and revising them based on order clarifications, customer feedback, and contractual scope.
  • Build and apply strong regional electrical and regulatory expertise, ensuring global standards are met with local precision.
  • Lead technical customer clarification and proactively identify, manage, and drive approval of deviations from standard solutions, ensuring full transparency and traceability.
  • Create accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) in ERP systems (SAP preferred) to support cost‑effective and reliable project delivery.
  • Research and introduce new components and technologies that enhance value, compliance, and technical performance. Thrive in a fast‑paced, multi‑project environment, balancing tenders, live orders, and continuous stakeholder interaction.
  • Provide leadership and ownership over the tender and design engineering process, setting priorities and driving execution with full accountability.
  • Collaborate closely with project management, manufacturing, product suppliers and sales teams to deliver buildable, timely, and cost‑efficient solutions.
  • Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

Your Background:

  • B. E / B. Tech in Electrical discipline / Equivalent.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in control cubicle electrical design; experience with industrial equipment and transformer cubicle design is preferred.
  • Technical experience with transformer digital devices, advanced digital solutions and online monitoring systems.
  • Strong understanding of electrical standards (IEC and IEEE), systems and equipment.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant software.
  • Structured, detail‑oriented, and comfortable working under concurrent project demands.
  • Experience with AutoCAD tool, E3 / E-plan and ERP/SAP exposure are considered strong assets.
  • Strong communicator—both written and verbal—especially in technical discussions.
  • Knowledge about occupational health and safety, environment and quality management systems.
  • Proficiency in both spoken & written English language is required.
