Field Service Engineer

The Opportunity

In this highly visible role, you will travel to customer sites across the United States and support the installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, repair, and modernization of high-voltage circuit breakers and related equipment up to 800kV. You'll serve as a trusted technical advisor, helping customers maximize equipment performance, minimize downtime, and maintain dependable power delivery.

This is a 100% remote, field-based opportunity that offers extensive travel, hands-on technical challenges, and continuous learning. How You'll Make an Impact

  • Perform commissioning, troubleshooting, repair, and modification of High Voltage circuit breakers and other High Voltage equipment up to 800kV.

  • Dependent on job level, perform simple to complex field service operations that typically require strong technical knowledge and skills with some supervision.

  • Conduct tests that require selection and adaptation, or modification of equipment and procedures. Compile and evaluate data to determine and resolve operating problems or malfunctions.

  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and failures and take measures to prevent and repair.

  • Identify electrical or mechanical problems and determine the corrective action.

  • Generate reports following the performance of field service assignments, including compilation of daily activities, photos, and test data.

  • Communicate effectively with customers, field teams, and engineering support to provide technical up-dates, explain findings, and ensure alignment on work scope and safety requirements.

  • Collaborate with internal teams and site personnel to support commissioning activities, outage schedules, and successful project execution.

  • Adhere to company safety policies and customer site safety requirements while following applicable reg-ula tory standards and operating procedures. 

Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

Your Background

  • Minimum of an Associate degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline. Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering or related technical discipline is strongly preferred.

  • Direct hands-on experience with High Voltage circuit breakers or within an electrical substation environment strongly preferred. Equivalent experience will be considered and may include maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, installation, repair, or commissioning of complex mechanical, electrical, electromechanical, aerospace, military, industrial, manufacturing, power generation, or transportation systems.

  • Mechanical and electrical aptitudes with demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve complex electrical and mechanical issues using hand tools, voltage multimeters, and specialized test equipment to ensure equipment reliability and system performance.

  • Strong technical communication and documentation skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to create reports, document findings, and communicate with customers and inter-nal teams.

  • Ability to work independently in a 100% remote field role, travel extensively by car and airplane, and per-form all work outdoors in substation environments while adhering to strict safety and quality standards.

  • Fluency in English, both spoken and written.

  • Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization. Hitachi Energy employees with current visa sponsorship may be eligible for internal transfers. This position is not eligible for OPT sponsorship.

  • Valid US driver’s license and passport required, or ability to successfully obtain upon hire.

  • Ability to travel 80% throughout the US and other locations, including Canada and/or Mexico. Other international travel may be required.

  • Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen required.

  • Credit check may be required.
