Miia Esala - My Power Grids Story

"I am proud to be Power Grids because we know how to adapt in a constantly changing world."

"For some reason, I always find myself outside my comfort zone. I went to study information technology due to my dislike for computers. And 16 years ago, I started to work in this unit as a project engineer trainee as a result of our engineering manager's very confusing email. I didn't understand a word he wrote. And then, 15 years later, a totally new world opened when I joined project management team in 2019, again getting my outside my comfort zone.

As cliché as it may sound, I have learnt a lot. Still, very frequently, I face tasks that I don't know how to perform – but I see these as great opportunities to develop.

Projects are never the same, customer needs and cultures differ, and our portfolio is relatively extensive. Our solutions are an essential part of bringing sustainable energy from wind, nuclear, solar, hydro and bioenergy plants to industry, transportation, buildings, etc.

But the key is to support one another and collaborate. Most of the time we implement successful projects but sometimes we have setbacks. We curse a lot; but we laugh more.

Will we make changes in our portfolio or will we meet new colleagues? I'm excited to see what kind of new working methods we might learn from Hitachi."
