Hitachi Energy inspires the next generation at Edinburgh’s Science Festival

Hitachi Energy has partnered with the Edinburgh Science Foundation to inspire and encourage school children and young people into science and technology through activities and events such as the Edinburgh Science Festival and a dedicated school outreach programme.

The festival runs until April 14 and aims to engage the next generations by bringing science to life and showcasing cutting-edge science to create a future that is sustainable, accessible, and equal for all.

Its aim is one shared by Hitachi Energy, a global leader that is advancing a sustainable energy future for all. With a commitment to supporting innovation and development, Hitachi Energy is collaborating with the Edinburgh Science Foundation to “inspire the next” generation from all backgrounds to explore and understand the world around them and foster an excitement in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) subjects.

Shaping tomorrow today

In an era of rapid technological development, fostering all routes for people of all ages and backgrounds to explore science and technology subjects is crucial. Not only in developing scientific literacy skills, but also in meeting the challenge of talent availability across the globe.

Hitachi Energy’s passion for nurturing the next generation of energy enthusiasts was recently showcased through the ‘Journey of Electricity’ education series. By making the world of energy fun and relatable, the initiative reached over half a billion young people worldwide.

The program of activity at the Edinburgh Science Festival includes Hitachi Energy’s sponsorship of the Energy Makers activity and will allow children to construct their own wind turbines and test them in a wind tunnel. Hosted at the City Art Centre, the project will provide children with a practical understanding of how wind turbines produce electricity and inspire them to pursue a career in the energy sector, highlighting the various roles and technologies involved.

In addition, the activities will identify career and development opportunities in the growing energy and technology sector, for example, in electrification, renewables, grid integration and automation as well as many other growing industries where energy security is paramount.
