R&D Insulation Engineer

The Opportunity

As R&D Engineer, you will join the Technology Center South Europe, part of the
global Technology organization of Business Unit Transformer. As member of our R&D team located in Córdoba (Spain), you will contribute to support the understanding of dielectric phenomena and develop insulation systems for future generations of power transformers. Your focus area will be technical contribution towards dielectric and insulation design, investigations, and coordination of improvements within Hitachi Energy’s technology and engineering teams. As part of your work, you will lead to the implementation of improvements in software tools used to design, optimize, and verify the transformer insulation system.

How you will make an impact

  • Run, within the dielectrics field feasibility studies, propose and develop new technical concepts, design new products, and simulate their expected performance for core and shell type transformers.

  • Lead and manage R&D projects self-driven on time, on budget, and with the required quality following Hitachi Energy internal standards and processes.

  • Lead the implementation of new functionality in transformer insulation design tools. Create technical requirements, support software developers in implementation and test the quality of the solutions.

  • Develop, manage and expand relationships with stakeholders, internal functions, Corporate Research Centers and external relevant parties (e.g. customers, universities). Providing proposals for possible partnerships.

  • Recognize the importance of intellectual property to our business, engage in IP discussions, prepare project clearance reports, and identify risks in R&D projects.

Your background

  • We are looking for a degree in electrical or industrial engineering, physics or chemistry. (MS or PhD in EM modelling will be valuable).

  • More than 3 years of experience, either in R&D projects, engineering or University research, related to dielectrics and insulators.

  • Experience in mathematical modelling of electromagnetic problems.

  • Experience in power Transformers design.

  • Experience with project management activities, especially Agile methodologies and IT development related to using Azure DevOps.

  • Understanding customer requirements to guide product development.

  • Awareness of intellectual property considerations in the research and development process.

  • A structured, problem-solving, self-driven, solutions-oriented approach.

  • Ability to provide software specifications containing all types of documents (written descriptions, calculation sheets, drawings, 3D CAD models).

  • Basic knowledge of software testing and delivery processes.

  • Spirit of innovation, out of the box thinking.

  • Excellent abilities in teamwork in international teams with excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Strong communication skills. Fluent spoken and written English.
