Syncon System Design Senior Professional

The opportunity:

Engineering authority in design and design studies for projects/tenders for Power  Quality Solutions.  Complete assignments on small projects  portions  of  larger  projects,  cost-effectively  and  in  accordance  with  contract specifications, quality standards, safety requirements and international standards. Based on technical specifications from  end  customers  and  inputs  from  OU  Engineering  team,  define  Topology  of  the  solutions,  perform  system calculations, validate the equipment dimensions, specify the main equipment and involve in supplier co-ordination. Perform design studies such as harmonic performance, protection design, insulation co-ordination including lightning studies, loss evaluation and reliability study.

How you’ll make an impact:

  • Review of Tender document, technical specifications and preparation of Design Basis Document. Define Topology of the solutions (SLD & PBD) by doing system investigations.

  • Capable of carrying out RMS and EMT based power system simulations. Ability to assess the load flow and short circuit contributions of the system to dimension the key equipment.

  • Capable of performing Loss Evaluation and Reliability calculations. In-depth understanding of basics of power system steady state, dynamic and transient behaviour is preferred.

  • Auxiliary system design knowledge – AC/DC Equipment sizing. In-depth understanding of international standards (i.e., IEEE/IEC/GIGRE) for specifying power system components and design studies.  

  • Directly responsible for maintaining and updating the documentation for respective projects as per quality process.

  • Co-ordination with other departments like Project management, Electrical, Electro mechanical, control design, supply chain for design progress & completion.

  • Ensure Ontime delivery of design deliverables & to be vigilant on project schedule impacts. Responsible for obtaining customer approvals for the designs and drawings.

  • Technical risk and opportunity assessment and validation. Take part in customer meetings / site visits for tender/project clarifications.

  • Support and act as interface engineer during erection & commissioning. Estimation of engineering effort for each project for costing at tender stage.

  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

Your background:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering / masters in power systems engineering, with 5 – 8 years’ experience.

  • Experience with substation design and equipment dimensioning (Syncon machine, reactor, Circuit breaker, Power transformer, busbar etc.,).

  • Experience with specifying power system components and evaluation of vendor documents. Hands-on experience in MATLAB, PSCAD or PSSE is required.

  • Experience in Co-ordinating with suppliers for the optimal design of main system components. Evaluate their design and test record documents.

  • Individual contributor using in-depth knowledge in a specific area to execute complex or specialized projects / challenges often thinking independently to challenge traditional solutions.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of related disciplines in the organization. Works independently, applying established standards.

  • Dynamic and Proactive, willing to grow in the organization. Team player, ready to play the role across the different countries.

  • High level of ownership and able to guide and plan works for the team.

  • Proficiency in both spoken & written English language is required.
