Mechanical Design Engineer

The opportunity

We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join Hitachi Energy’s Transformers business in Vaasa, Finland. In this role, you will play a key role in advancing the energy transition. You will design power transformers, solve complex engineering challenges, and collaborate with colleagues around the world to create reliable, high-quality, and sustainable solutions. Whether you're at the beginning of your career or bring years of experience, you'll find opportunities to develop your expertise, grow professionally, and make a real impact.

This is an opportunity to work with engineering challenges related to specialty transformers. You will be part of the order delivery process of the most complex and demanding transformer and reactor designs that the industry has to offer. This role includes hands-on participation in different engineering tasks as well as communication with different stakeholders. Main responsibility in this role is the mechanical design of transformer internal parts and components.

There is more than one way to approach this role. You can be a strong professional with several years of relevant experience or a recently graduated/graduating student with willingness and courage to test your limits in learning new things and taking on the challenges that are part of our daily work. Depending on your background, we will provide training and support to help you grow and develop into this role.

  • Mechanical design of transformer internal parts and components
  • Create and maintain product structures
  • Collaborate closely with procurement, production, and quality teams to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Close cooperation with external partners and subcontractors
  • Self-guided, organized and accurate team player, with a positive learning attitude
  • Interact with people from diverse backgrounds and skillsets

Your background

  • A B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • An understanding of electrical connections and connection groups; experience in this area is considered an advantage.
  • Knowledge of mechanical engineering, manufacturing techniques, and material technologies.
  • Previous experience in assembly work is seen as a benefit.
  • Familiarity with 3D CAD software and engineering design tools.
  • Strong communication skills in both Finnish and English, written and spoken. Additional language skills are considered as an asset.
  • Practical mindset, a willingness to learn, and an interest in developing your technical expertise in a collaborative engineering environment.
