Mechanical Design Team Leader

The opportunity

At Hitachi Energy, we are looking for a Mechanical Design Team Leader to join our Transformers Business in Vaasa, Finland. In this role, you will support and coordinate a small team of skilled design engineers while contributing your own expertise to challenging customer projects. This is not a traditional people management role but an opportunity to coordinate and support a small team of engineers, foster collaboration, and drive successful project delivery.

In this role, you will lead a team of mechanical design engineers working with some of the industry's most advanced transformer and reactor solutions. You will combine hands-on engineering expertise with people leadership, guiding your team through demanding customer projects while ensuring high-quality, innovative, and sustainable designs.

As part of our global engineering organization, you will collaborate closely with colleagues across functions and regions, playing a key role in delivering world-class transformer solutions that support the ongoing energy transition.

How you’ll make an impact

  • Lead, support, and coordinate a team of mechanical design engineers
  • Ensure efficient project execution and follow project progress across the team
  • Drive collaboration between engineering, procurement, production, and quality functions
  • Foster a positive, engaging, and high-performing team environment
  • Build strong relationships with external partners and subcontractors
  • Contribute to technical problem-solving and decision-making in customer projects
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and the development of team competencies
  • Promote safe, sustainable, and high-quality engineering practices

Your background

  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. in electrical or mechanical engineering
  • Previous experience in mechanical engineering, preferably within industrial product design or manufacturing
  • Experience in team leadership, coaching, or coordinating engineering activities is considered an advantage
  • Knowledge of 3D CAD tools and mechanical design processes
  • Experience with project planning tools such as MS Project or MS Planner is beneficial
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes and engineering documentation is considered a plus
  • Strong communication skills in Finnish and English, both written and spoken
