Launch: New power conversion system for energy storage takes center stage at the smarter-E Europe 2025

At the 2025 smarter-E Conference in Munich, I was happy to be part of the unveiling of our latest innovation in battery energy storage technology - the liquid-cooled and high-power density Power Conversion System (PCS). Exhibition attendees even had the opportunity to get a firsthand look at this next-generation PCS by visiting our booth, where we showcased a life-size model of one complete power module from the new converter.

As energy systems worldwide shift toward electrification and decarbonization, innovative power electronic solutions like our new converter are emerging as the unsung heroes of the modern grid. Power converters have a vital role to play in the energy transition by enabling grid flexibility, stabilizing intermittent renewables, and unlocking value in the expanding Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) market. Thats why the continued development of solutions designed to make renewable integration faster, more reliable, and more efficient are so important.

Built on a Solid Foundation

Evolving from our trusted central converter line, this PCS brings forward reliability and performance that’s already been proven in the field. Backed by more than 30 years of Hitachi Energy’s BESS field experience, this converter is engineered for dependable performance in the harshest and most dynamic grid environments, for example in Chile’s Antofagasta desert.  

Leveraging this experience towards creating a unified platform approach to design and manufacturing simplifies the supply chain, reduces engineering overhead, and supports consistency for developers, battery OEMs, and integrators. This solid technological foundation ensures that our solutions not only connect renewables to the grid but also provide the flexibility needed to respond to a global array of application requirements.

Marija Vujacic is a Global Product Manager for Hitachi Energy’s Power Conversion Solutions (PCS). With experience in academia, R&D, and product management, she specializes in power electronics and energy storage solutions and holds a PhD in Power Electronics. Throughout her career, Marija has contributed to advancing renewable and battery energy technologies and taught courses on renewable energy systems. Passionate about driving the transition to sustainable energy, she combines her technical expertise with a deep understanding of market needs to deliver innovative solutions.
