The opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced HSE Manager to lead, develop, and implement comprehensive health, safety, and environmental programs across Hitachi, Ltd. This role is crucial in fostering a proactive safety culture, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations, and minimizing risks to employees, the environment, and company assets.

How you'll make an impact

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the company's Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) management system, ensuring alignment with Hitachi's global standards and local regulations.

  • Conduct regular risk assessments, audits, and inspections to identify potential hazards and non-compliance issues, developing and overseeing the implementation of corrective actions.

  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and reporting for all HSE incidents, ensuring effective preventative measures are established and shared.

  • Develop and deliver comprehensive HSE training programs for all employees, contractors, and visitors, promoting a strong safety-first culture.

  • Act as the primary point of contact for regulatory bodies, ensuring timely and accurate reporting and compliance with all environmental permits, licenses, and health & safety legislation.

  • Manage and monitor environmental performance, including waste management, energy consumption, emissions, and water usage, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.

  • Establish and maintain emergency response plans and procedures, conducting regular drills and ensuring all personnel are adequately trained.

  • Collaborate with various departments, including operations, engineering, and human resources, to integrate HSE considerations into all business processes.

  • Prepare and present regular HSE performance reports to senior management, highlighting key metrics, trends, and recommendations.

  • Stay abreast of new and emerging HSE legislation, industry best practices, and technological advancements, proactively adapting company policies and procedures.

  • You will be ensuring compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

Your background

  • Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.

  • Nationally recognized professional certification in Health and Safety (e.g., NEBOSH Diploma, CSP, CRSP) is highly preferred.

  • Minimum of 12-15 years of progressive experience in an HSE management role, preferably within a multinational manufacturing, industrial, or technology environment.

  • In-depth knowledge of local and international HSE regulations, standards, and best practices.

  • Proven track record of developing, implementing, and managing effective HSE programs.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to conduct thorough risk assessments and incident investigations.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with HSE management software.

  • Ability to travel occasionally to other Hitachi sites or for training as required.
