Hitachi Energy announced that it will supply key equipment for phase II of Nanyang Power Plant in central China’s Henan Province, including 1100 kV gas-insulated switchgear (GIS), 1100 kV transformers, and generator circuit breakers.

The Nanyang Power Plant Phase II project is a key energy initiative in Henan Province, with an installed capacity of 2,000 megawatts (MW).  This project will enhance the security and reliability of central China’s UHV AC grid networks, strengthen peak load regulation capabilities across Henan, particularly in the south, and provide robust support for the large-scale development of renewable energy.

Hitachi Energy will supply the main transformers and GIS equipment for the 1000 kV step-up substation constructed as part of the project, enabling power transmission to the Nanyang 1000 kV UHV substation and safeguarding the secure operation of the regional UHV ring grid.

As core equipment connecting the power plant to the grid system, the transformer will be responsible for converting the generator's low-voltage output into 1000 kV high-voltage electricity suitable for long-distance transmission. The transformers supplied by Hitachi Energy feature delivers low energy losses, compact footprint, light weight and minimal operation and maintenance costs, delivering outstanding lifecycle cost-effectiveness.

This project marks the GIS product's ‌first global deployment‌. Leveraging the over 50 years of Hitachi Energy’s expertise in GIS technology, this million-volt GIS product achieves global leading performance parameters. It offers outstanding electrical and mechanical performance, along with environmental features, meeting power systems' extremely high requirements for safety and reliability. In the Nanyang Power Plant project, this innovative GIS equipment will help improve transmission capacity and efficiency, effectively reduce line losses, and contribute to the secure and stable operation of the power plant.

Furthermore, Hitachi Energy will also supply advanced generator circuit breakers for the plant's generation side. These breakers will not only enhance protection capabilities for the generators and transformers but also simplify operational procedures and effectively reduce maintenance costs.

Upon the commissioning of the Phase II project, the total installed capacity of the Nanyang Power Plant is expected to reach 4,000 MW, becoming a major benchmark facility for high efficiency, energy savings, and operational excellence in Central China.
