Agenda
- Navigating energy transition challenges in the grid
The evolving energy landscape is placing new demands on the grid and increasing the need for inertia and system strength, as well as voltage and frequency control. As the grid shifts from passive to active due to the variability in generation and consumption, innovative solutions will be needed to ensure power stability, reliability, and resiliency. Learn more about what challenges grid operators face today and in the coming years as the energy transition accelerates.
- Grid challenges solved: a deep dive into advanced grid solutions
Listen to four in-depth case studies on how advanced grid solutions are being applied to address key issues related to short-circuits, inertia and reactive power.
o Case 1: Short-circuit contribution with Synchronous Condensers and STATCOMs
o Case 2: Short circuit and inertia contribution with Synchronous Condensers and Hybrid Solutions
o Case 3: Integration of Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) and inertia contribution with Synchronous Condensers and Enhanced STATCOMs
o Case 4: The role of advanced grid-forming BESS in enhancing system strength
- Future grid technologies: unlocking the potential of tomorrow’s grid
In this session, Hitachi Energy experts discuss some of the cutting-edge technologies that will shape the landscape of tomorrow’s grid.
- Innovation and Technology: Power Electronics
Power electronics are at the heart of electrical power conversion. Today, approximately 70% of electrical energy is processed by power electronics, and this will increase in the coming decades. This session will discuss some of the latest developments in the power electronics space and the important role they will play in development of future grids.
o Power Semiconductors: The silent heroes
o Power semiconductors are at the core of several solutions for grid stability and reliability, e-mobility, and many other applications. Building a power semiconductor involves more than 200 process steps and can take several months. Many of these steps require the use of highly complex technology and have extremely narrow tolerances. This session will help attendees understand some of the basics of power semiconductors and provide insight into selecting the right technologies and solutions for each application.
o Advanced Control Systems
o Recent years have seen an unpreceded growth in utility investments globally in HVDC transmission links and power quality solutions. A crucial element in these technologies is its control and protection system. Listen to Hitachi Energy experts discuss the latest developments in control system capabilities and architecture, along with the future outlook to meet the needs of tomorrow’s grids.
