R&D Engineer – High Voltage Circuit Breakers

The Opportunity


Join our dynamic team at Hitachi Energy's Technology Center in Mt Pleasant, PA, where you'll be at the forefront of developing and optimizing high voltage equipment for electrical substations. As part of our dedicated team working on dead-tank high voltage circuit breakers, you'll play a crucial role in advancing electrical power distribution and protection systems. How You'll Make an Impact

  • Perform advanced technology and product development assignments to enhance new and active products.

  • Provide prompt and effective technical assistance to meet customer needs.

  • Review non-standard customer specifications and evaluate circuit breaker suitability.

  • Troubleshoot selection, installation, and commissioning issues, resolving customer concerns efficiently.

  • Offer technical support for electrical and mechanical testing, including optimizing test reports.

  • Assist in new supplier qualification activities and maintain technical instructions.

  • Identify and manage Intellectual Property (IP) risks and opportunities.

  • Support the IP organization with invention disclosures and patent searches.

  • Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures and guidelines

Your Background

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (EE), Electro-mechanical Engineering Technology (EMET), or a related field.
  • Strong preference for candidates with experience in electrical power systems and/or high voltage circuit breakers.

  • Basic proficiency in CAD software and 3D modeling tools, such as PTC Creo or similar.

  • Experience performing power systems studies is a plus.

  • Willingness to collaborate with cross-functional teams in an international environment.

  • Proactive and innovative approach to solving multi-disciplinary problems.

  • Candidate must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States.
