In-Process Quality Engineer- Small & Medium Power Transformer

The opportunity

The In-Process Quality Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the highest quality standards are met throughout the manufacturing process of small and medium power transformers. This role involves proactive quality assurance, defect prevention, and continuous improvement initiatives to deliver reliable and compliant products to our customers.

How you’ll make an impact

  • Develop, implement, and maintain in-process quality control plans, procedures, and work instructions for the manufacturing of small and medium power transformers.
  • Conduct regular inspections, tests, and audits at various stages of the production process (e.g., winding, core assembly, tanking, insulation, final assembly) to identify and address non-conformities.
  • Utilize various quality tools and methodologies (e.g., FMEA, 8D, Ishikawa, SPC) for root cause analysis of defects and implementation of effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Collaborate closely with production, design, and supply chain teams to resolve quality issues, improve manufacturing processes, and reduce scrap and rework.
  • Monitor and analyze quality data, trends, and key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify areas for improvement and report on quality performance.
  • Participate in the qualification of new materials, components, and processes, ensuring they meet specified quality requirements.
  • Provide training and guidance to production personnel on quality standards, procedures, and best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, customer specifications, and internal quality management system (QMS) requirements (e.g., ISO 9001).
  • Lead and participate in continuous improvement projects aimed at enhancing product quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

Your background

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 3-7 years of experience in a quality engineering role, preferably within the electrical manufacturing industry, with specific exposure to power transformers or similar heavy electrical equipment.
  • Strong understanding of transformer design, manufacturing processes, and testing standards (e.g., IEC, ANSI/IEEE).
  • Proficiency in quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001) and quality tools (e.g., FMEA, SPC, MSA, 8D problem-solving).
  • Demonstrated ability to perform root cause analysis and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across different departments.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and reporting, with experience using relevant software (e.g., MS Excel, Minitab).
  • Certification in quality (e.g., ASQ Certified Quality Engineer) is a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
  • Proficiency in both spoken & written English language is required
