R&D Engineer - Control Development - India Development Centre

Hitachi Energy India Development Centre (IDC) is a research and development facility with around 500 R&D engineers, specialists, and experts, who focus on creating and sustaining digital solutions, new products and technology. This includes product integration, testing, cybersecurity, and certification.  The India Development Centre is situated in Chennai and Bangalore. IDC collaborates with the R&D and Research centres of Hitachi Energy, which are spread across more than 15 locations throughout 12 countries.
In the past 20 years, IDC has secured more than 200 international papers and 150+ patents. We are looking for a skilled and motivated engineer to join our team of R&D Engineers.

How you’ll make an impact:

  • To contribute to the development of next‑generation control and protection systems based on FPGA modules.

  • To perform development, simulation, and validation activities, primarily using VHDL and Model Sim.

  • To develop control and protection software on the MACH™ control platform and using MATLAB/Simulink.

  • To Prepare, maintain, and manage technical documentation, ensuring accuracy and traceability.

  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

Your Background:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related discipline with minimum 5 years of experience in high‑power converter control software, control system design, and real‑time control software.

  • Strong, broad expertise in control system design, power electronics, and hands‑on experience as a control engineer for power electronic applications. Experience supporting development of control and protection systems using FPGA‑based architectures.

  • Proficiency in VHDL, Model Sim, and related FPGA development workflows. Experience in MATLAB/Simulink for control algorithm development; experience with MACH platform or similar control platforms is an advantage.

  • Experience with development and build tools such as Visual Studio, Azure DevOps, GitHub, etc.

  • Strong documentation skills to prepare, update, and manage technical documents, specifications, and design descriptions.

  • Strong team players with the ability to work independently demonstrate analytical mindset, problem‑solving skills, and a proactive approach.
