The opportunity 

Hitachi Energy, High Voltage Products, is renowned worldwide as a specialist for power transmission and distribution. Our unit Gas Insulated Switchgears (GIS), based in Zürich-Oerlikon, is active in the development and production of gas insulated switching systems. We ensure the high reliability of our systems by using state-of-the-art development tools and methods.    

As an Area Sales Manager, you will take ownership of driving business growth within your assigned region and actively shape our market success. You will work closely with customers and partners, positioning our cutting-edge portfolio and delivering solutions that meet complex technical and commercial requirements. 

Joining our international and highly experienced team, you will gain deep insights into the high-voltage business while contributing directly to sustainable and reliable energy systems. How you’ll make an impact 

  • Develop and execute sales strategies for your assigned region, driving sustainable business growth and increasing market share within the GIS portfolio   

  • Build, maintain, and expand strong relationships with key customers, EPCs, and partners to identify business opportunities and create long-term value   

  • Take ownership of the full sales cycle, from opportunity identification and offer preparation to negotiation and successful deal closure   

  • Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders such as engineering, project management, and service teams to deliver competitive and customer-oriented solutions   

  • Analyse market trends, customer needs, and competitor activities to proactively position our portfolio and strengthen our market presence   

  • Drive order intake and revenue growth while ensuring alignment with business targets and strategic priorities   

  • Support customers throughout the lifecycle of projects, ensuring a high level of satisfaction and identifying opportunities for further business   

Your background 

  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in technical sales, key account management, or a similar customer-facing role, ideally within the energy or industrial sector   

  • Degree (Bachelor or Master) in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related technical field, complemented by a strong commercial understanding   

  • Proven track record in selling complex technical products or systems, with the ability to manage the full sales cycle and successfully close deals   

  • Experience working with customers across different levels and functions, including the ability to build trust, influence decisions, and manage challenging negotiations   

  • Strong understanding of the energy market, manufacturing industry, or system business, ideally with exposure to substations or switchgear technologies   

  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a proactive and solution-oriented approach, combined with the ability to work independently and drive topics forward   

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with a collaborative mindset and the ability to work effectively in international and cross-functional teams 

  • Willingness to travel (approx. 20%)
